Subject: Ben-Hur remake flops at US box office

Written By: Philip Eno on 08/22/16 at 5:18 am

A big-budget remake of Ben-Hur has had a disappointing start at the US box office, debuting at number five. The film, which reportedly cost around $100m (£77m) to make, took just $11.4m (£8.7m) on its opening weekend.

It is the fifth time Ben-Hur has been made, and Charlton Heston excels!

It's gonna be hard to beat Charlie's version.

I gotta say that 2016 has been quite a subpar year for big-budget blockbusters. It's been far more exceptional for animated movies, at least.

I had a hunch the first few times I saw ads for this movie on TV that it would be a flop. It just had that vibe to it.

Even the film critics disliked it, for on the review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 28%, based on 107 reviews, with an average rating of 4.8/10.

It woulda fared better if they had cast Adam Sandler in the lead role.

No, that wouldn't work.

Remakes always flop. Don't know what's going on with Hollywood and why they think they can just remake/reboot everything. They should know that remakes don't do well due to incompetent production staff. Try something else that ISN'T trying to pander to nostalgia and be nothing more than just a cash-in movie.

Never knew that Jack Huston was into playing Christian characters. I only knew him from acting as Richard Harrow from Boardwalk Empire.

They're trying to throw something to the walls and seeing if it sticks.  ::)

They've been doing that since they thought making reboots would actually be profitable, thanks to somebody doing that since last year.
