Subject: Are the 2010s the Decade Rock Died?

Is rock music going the way of jazz? It feels like it.

In the right places, jazz is well and truly alive!

Rock and roll is here to stay.
It will never die.

I don't think rock is dead. There were a few rock songs that launched during this decade, but they aren't as popular as they were in the 2000s. Some people it might have to do with computer software that ended rock, but it's just that rock needs a new revival.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't be surprised if you turn out to be right.  :(

But the mainstream rock era of 1955 to 2000, was the best pop music era ever, in my opinion. So rock is well loved by most people.

But it could be wrong, rock could make a huge comeback, or something, one day.

It died in the very early 2010s, unless you were joking.

There is a nice amount of buzz for Kamasi Washington in the indie sphere.

Anyway, I'm more of a fan of indie rock but even they've been struggling to a certain degree and that scares me. Even when mainstream rock is suffering...indie rock is still kickin it. This has been the case less and less every year this decade. Both are suffering equally

Ouch. RIP, rock. :)

I'm 30 but I like disco. A lot of musicians my age and younger have been rediscovering disco lately. It could be in for a serious mainstream revival, just to warn you.

I know that The Bee Gees rediscovered themselves with disco with Saturday Night Fever, but they were not then a rock band, as rock bands can be.

Rock in mainstream? Ya... I can agree...

Oh please! Have you heard any current bands played on the radio? Ghost, Volbeat, Highly Suspect, Chevelle, Seether, Disturbed, Adelita's Way and so many I can't even name right now can be heard on the radio. Some newer, some old but still relevant. Not everyone listens to pop and rap all the time. Then again I really don't know what you consider to be "rock" music.

Rock music is a genre of popular music that originated as "rock and roll".

But rock had its revenge, and reemerged after Disco Demolition Night at old Comiskey Park in Chicago.

The date was July 12, 1979.

That's where 80s rock had its roots, imo. Even though it didn't have to involve angry disco haters in Chicago.

To answer the main post, no I don't believe the 2010s are the decade that rock died. I'd say it's the decade where rock went into a state of dormancy. For all we know rock could make a comeback in the future. There's nothing to suggest that the lack of rock in the mainstream is permanent. Anything could happen in the future.

It's not mainstream, but it's still very much alive!

Rock died in the mid 2000s

People said the same thing about 1970s-early 2000s rock. Nostalgia will be kind to 2000s rock.

I was being intentionally hyperbolic. I consider all those bands rock, sure. I don't know how old you are but if you're around my age or older and you haven't noticed how much rock has faded from the mainstream since the mid 2000s, I'm not sure where you've been.

Jazz is still alive and so is rock, you just won't hear much of either on Top 40 these days.

Eventually though, people will get tired of Ariana Grande and clones.  When that happens, it will be interesting to see if there is a rock resurgence.
