Subject: Best Song of 2013

Written By: exodus08 on 11/28/16 at 1:15 am

This might be the best song of that year or even decade.

The greatest song to ever come out from this decade was this.

This song was from 2010 though, not 2013.  It was a good song, but music was overall quite different in 2013 compared to where it was in 2010.

2013 was a horrible year for music in my opinion but it did have a few good songs.  I will remember that year mostly for Blurred Lines and "Roar" by Katy Perry.

Yeah, but I said that it was the greatest song in the decade, not year. I would've said that it's the greatest song released in 2010, but I thought I could just talk about the 2010s in general.

Not gonna line, when I first heard "Blurred Lines", I thought it was a 70s song. I got it confused with "Play that Funky Music" by Wild Cherry, since that was an actual 70s song.

The OP song is pretty decent, but in my opinion, this is undoubtedly my favorite song of 2013, as well as the decade itself so far:

It's actually a knockoff of this song, for which the entire lawsuit was issued against it:

I heard about that a few years ago. According to a source, it said that Marvin Gaye's children got awarded $7 million after Blurred Lines was found infringed.

I have to go with "Timber", by Ke$ha, featuring Pitbull.

"It's going down, I'm yelling timber!"

I don't have a particular favorite song, other than maybe "Poetic Justice" by Kendrick Lamar, but I liked the entire album of JT's 20/20 Experience. I prefer the music of the first half of 2013. I really didn't care for the second half, when it became all about Miley Cyrus, and even "Blurred Lines" got played out.

I liked that song.  It is a late 2012 song that was popular for the first few months of 2013.  By the end of the year though it wasn't being played anymore.  In a way, that song signaled the end of the electropop era.

I keep hearing that song until early 2016. It's like New York was addicted to that song, while I was one of the only people who didn't like it so much.

Yeah, Katy Perry's Prism album from that year was phenomenal!

Well if you're talking about Eminem songs from 2013 which is the topic of this thread, then those songs were just as good as 2010... arguably better. The Marshall Mathers LP 2 had tons of good music that got stuck in my head.

Monster was okay to listen to, even on the radio. It's not one of my favorite Eminem songs, but it's still worth mentioning by a lot of Eminem fans.

2013 was absolutely the best year for music in not only this decade, but since 2007. Just an amazing year for music for both mainstream music and underground. The best song? That's very difficult to choose because there were so many good songs. My favourite mainstream one is probably Thrift Shop.

Rude is more of a 2014 song because that's when it got popular on the top 40 radio stations.

Thrift Shop was released early enough in 2012 (August) that I consider it primarily a 2012 song.

I didn't like 2013 in music for the most part.  It was the year that electropop gave way to teen pop and disco revival.  Hip-hop shifted from late '00s/early '10s synth-based glam rap to mid '10s trap rap.  It was the year that established the sound of the mid '10s.  The one bright spot was the hipster rock that started to become more popular that year.

Thrift Shop isn't a 2012 song though.... It's purely a 2013 song. It was huge early 2013, not late 2012. It is number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 year end 2013, not even on the list for 2012.... If you want to call Thrift Shop a 2012 song, then you must call Call Me Maybe a 2011 song because it came out October 2011. Doesn't make sense right? The year that people actually hear the song on the radio and it becomes popular is the year of the song. So Thrift Shop is obviously the biggest song of 2013. How can you consider it a primarily 2012 song if nobody has heard of it in 2012?

2013 music was amazing in my opinion. There is no year in this decade that even comes close to it.

Maybe i'm a bit confused because I had satellite radio at the time and they were playing Thrift Shop constantly during the fall of 2012.  You are right that maybe it didn't peak nationally until early 2013.

I first heard Call Me Maybe in March 2012, but it will forever be known as the "song of the summer" of 2012.

Even though everybody has heard of it in early 2013, and I wouldn't think they know about Macklemore before 2012.

Thrift Shop can also be considered the song of summer 2013 as it was still popular then. But Call Me Maybe technically came out 2011. Which is weird why people use that song as an example of how music changed, when it was simply following the trends of 2011 as it was recorded and released that year.

I want the next Sam Smith album to be nothing but Sam Smith/Disclosure songs.
