Subject: Why are you interested in cultural eras?

I tried to explain the idea to some friends the other day, and they didn't get it. The concept of a "zeitgeist" seems quite intellectually advanced, or maybe just geekish. Lol. What are we doing here?

I suppose people just enjoy categorizing years as a means both to describe them in relative terms, as well as point out what factors evolved popular culture over a particular period of time.

I think we're all just a bunch of closeted borderline decadologists using this forum as outlet to geek out and express our inner frustrations with the mainstream misconceptions of the zeitgeist of decades!

It helps me understand how and why culture changes, and culture is really important (like the water a fish swims in).

I want to know why things are and why they change and how they change.
And I categorize everything, but well, I am on the spectrum.

Frankly, I just rank the years from what I think about them in my perspective. I don't really think so much about the cultural aspects of it, since they aren't really my thing. The #1 reason why I joined this site was to be personally nostalgic over stuff from the 2000s, since I did have those conversations with some of these members before (e.g. mqg96 and Zelek3).

My interest in cultural eras ties in with my general interest in history. I also like to imagine the current era being very fascinating and eventually talked about all the time in future history classes. :D
