Subject: What appeals to people about trap? I really don't get it

Written By: nintieskid999 on 04/26/17 at 6:02 pm

I've never heard a trap song I liked and it sounds like a mumbled garbage. What appeals to people about that style of music? I really have no clue. I can't even appreciate it in a more distant way.

I think it's the beats. They're very heavy that it makes the song bumping. OTT, I agree that the genre is terrible. There are very few songs I like.

So they basically see it as something to amp the bass up and drive to?

It's probably just the beats, since it's unique to them.

Like Markese (UltraGameDog) and NewYorkRaven mentioned.....it's the beats of trap rap that appeals to (some) people. Only about 3-5 trap songs...I actually like.

Yeah. Anytime I hear trap-rap, the beats are super pounding

Some of the trap songs sound almost the same to me. Sometimes it sounds futuristic to me.

I guess it could sound futuristic in a dystopian future sort of way.

I guess people like the repeated emphasis on certain words or phrases, plus the stern, cold tone of the music? Whatever the case, it certain has little appeal to me personally.

Its the party appeal. When people are trying to get 'lit' (hate this f*ckn term ;D) in the club music like this helps lead into that. Its honestly just as mindless and at times appealing (if you're high or drunk) as the crunk/snap rap of the mid-late 00's.

Also the chorus.

Trap instantly makes you forget stress.

This was it.  Also, when trap was first coming on the scene it was fresh and a lot of people really liked it.  I know that I myself did.  However, it's become stale over the years.  Hip-hop has sounded pretty much the same since around 2013 and there are traces of today's hip-hop going back as far as 2009.

The only Trap I can tolerate is Bubblegum Trap. Like the new song iSpy that is popular now. Other trap just mostly sounds like noise to me.

It's music with very heavy beats, so you can barely hear the artists when they rap or sing.

Yeah, I have listened to trap from around that timeframe, and I agree it was good; however, it has been awful for sometime.

And what 2009 songs of today's hip-hop had traces? It seems there was very few at that time.

Trap is a very old style of "hip-hop" dating back to around 2001, I remember T.I. and other southern rappers making trap songs in 2002.

How pathetic that rappers/producers have milk a style of music that is over 15 years old and market it as "new", just shows the utter lack of originality of our times.

What are examples of trap songs from 2001 and 2002?

This can possibly be a example. I typed in trap songs from 2001 and 2002, and I got no answers except this one.

Damn, I remember this song. I never knew that this song was very early trap music. I can see how it's a trap song but to me it's better than pretty much all trap songs today.

Me too. I guess it could be a very early trap song unless it's considered crunk.

I agree with you on that ;D.

Yeah, "24's" by T.I. can be considered both early trap rap and crunk rap.
