Subject: 2010s songs that could pass for 2000s songs

Written By: HazelBlue99 on 06/05/17 at 1:53 am

I don't think we have a thread based on this. This thread is for sharing songs released in this decade that could have been released in the 2000s. I would exclude anything from 2010 or 2011, as not only is it too chronologically close to the Late 2000s, but some of the releases may of still had a 2000s vibe to them. Anyway, here are my song choices;

This was released in 2015, but I think it could easily have been released around 2008.

This was also released in 2015, however I think it could have been released around 2009 or possibly 2010.

It does have a 2008-2009 kinda sound. And it does have a trashy and narcissistic '00s feel to it. (I like this song, I'm just talking about the materialistic, self-obsessed, and reality show-y attitude of the '00s.)

Excluding songs from 2010 and 2011...

Just when you thought Timbaland was no longer relevant to popular music, there's this song, which has pretty much the same beat as "Cry Me a River" a decade later.

There are also countless rock, r&b, and hip hop songs released throughout the 2010s that are stylistically no different from 2000s music, but the above is easily the biggest example that was actually a mainstream smash.

This song from 2013 sounds very 00's and was a big hit on the charts:

It sounds more like something from 2005-2006 than 2013.

I didn't know that was an Avril Lavigne song!  :o

Oh yeah, that's her alright. Her last big top 40 hit so far. With that "sentimental" acoustic guitar, it's a throwback to her old Complicated sound.

This sounds like a song from 2006-2009.

I also want to mention this one, although it's from 2010. Because Duck Sauce's Barbra Streisand doesn't sound like something from 2008/2009, but more like a typical disco house track released in 2000/2001.

I remember I really enjoyed this song in 2013. Timberlake makes good pop music.

Didn't Hello Kitty make crack the top 40 in 2014?  ??? I heard Avril Lavigne is making a comeback this year.

Yeah but lets try to stick with songs that were released before 2008/2009. Because we all know 2009 was part of early '10s music.

Another really catchy song in 2013 (don't care for the lyrics but the beat is great). 2013 just kept bringing so many good hits. I found this song to have mid '10s aesthetic though. It has that sound and vibe of the mid '10s.

I honestly can't think of any songs past 2011 from the top of my head that sound like a 2000s song. If there are any it is usually on purpose for a throwback effect but they all have a 2010s production sound to it.

From 2015, but kinda has a mid-00's Pharrell/Clipse vibe to it.

(offtopic) I didn't knew the Vince Staples track before, but I like it. Thanks for posting it. :)

The album's name "Summertime '06" might had something to do with it too.

Vince Staples also released this song of the same name in 2016.

Nope. It didn't even chart that high in Japan, either.
