Subject: What Are The Dumbest '90s Kid Memes You've Seen?

Written By: mach!ne_he@d on 06/27/17 at 5:43 pm

Okay, I'm just gonna put this here since '90s kid memes are obviously a '10s thing.

https://pics.me.me/only-90s-kids-will-understand-paystation-2-ah-the-good-times-14475646.png

Only '90s kids can understand a game from 2004.

https://pics.me.me/you-are-not-a-90s-kid-if-you-dont-have-17888804.png

You're not a true '90s kid unless you had a crush on an actress that didn't have a lead role until 2001.

https://pics.me.me/so-glad-i-grew-up-doing-this-not-this-share-6103274.png

Yet I bet whoever made that meme sent it out on a smartphone without the slightest sense of hypocrisy.

At least he put a lot of work into it.

That meme must have been made in either 2007 or 2008 or 2009, lol.

Anyways, here's a dumb '90s kid meme:

Probably 2008 because the iPhone wasn't really around throughout half of 2007, while HD flat-screen TVs were on the rise of popularity by 2008.

It's like they don't realize that other people had this problem as well. Even 2000s kids had this problem if they had wired landlines.

Yeah, around that time.

Yeah and those phones still exist (especially in offices). However, most kids didn't even use those phones because those were primarily for offices.

This is exactly what I was thinking. While I love the game, I don't recall playing it until 2005.

I'm from '90 yet I've noticed that I rarely talk about my time during the 1990s. I always felt things were cooler during my preteen to teen days in terms of personal life.

I don't get it.  I've seen a lot of people associate Drake and Josh with the '90s but it's about as '00s as you can get.  I can somewhat understand Y2K-era stuff.  Like Pokemon for instance; that could be 90s or 00s because it was popular around the decade changeover.  Stuff that didn't exist until well into the '00s isn't "90s kid" stuff.

That's the thing with most 90s kids memes. They put in something that's not even from the 90s and proclaim it as such. Even though it came out around 2002, 2003, 2004, and even 2005, even though not a single 90s kid has actually watched it in their childhood. I'm glad that they don't proclaim themselves as 90s kids anymore because the meme was stupid from the beginning.

Well, it seems like most '90s kids memes these days are posted by folks born around 1998 as a way to dump on kids born after 2000 for not being alive during the decade. With that context, I suppose it makes a little more sense.

It's made by people who think that '90s kid means "born in the 1990s".

Most of those memes are from the late 2000s and early 2010s....so it's unlikely that most of them are from late '90s borns. Most of them are made by people born 1992-1996.

But the memes still went on in the mid 2010s. I even remember some 1998 and 1999 babies saying that they were "90s kids" and that 90s died around 2004 (for some reason).

Only a few and the fact still remains that MOST...MOST...MOST...not all of those memes were created by people born 1992-1996. Also, knowing a few people born in 1998 and 1999 who called themselves '90s kids doesn't mean that 1998 & 1999 borns created most of those memes...we were too young for that sh*t.

Also, technically anyone born in the 1990s can be a '90s kid...it's just that most people colloquially view "kid" as an elementary-middle school aged person (even high schoolers).

No way thats from the late 00's. Nobody was nostalgic for the 90s back then. And few people owned iPhones either.

Remember, 90s nostalgia kicked off with "90s Nick was All That" in 2010-11. That's when the 90s kid memes blew up, and people started posting tech from the late 00s to compare to toys from the 90s to "prove" their point.

No..there was nostalgia for the '90s in the late 2000s. Also, the fact that there is a Wii in the picture, horrible picture quality of the meme and the camera that they used...I'm inclined to say that it's from 2007-2009. The Wii faded as phenomenon after the late 2000s but I could be wrong about when the meme was made (though not likely).

There aren't any examples of 90s nostalgia around that time outside of this website. 80's kids in the 00's were almost as persistent about how awesome their childhood was as 90's kids are now. I remember throwback CD ads on TV featuring hits from every decade up to the 1980s, never 1990-present. There just wasn't much demand to revisit the 90s and 90s kids weren't old enough to reminisce about it on social media.

The Wii was a cultural staple by 2010, and this was before the Wii U came out. Judging from the meme, the person Googled random images of then current technology, then hastily pasted them into MS paint. This likely explains the overall poor quality of the image. Primitive memes like this were common around 2010-2012.

VH1 made a mini-series called "I Love the '90s" all the way back in the 2004...so there was definitely nostalgia for the '90s in the late '00s. Look, of course it's not even close to being as much as today but it still existed.

But this is completely missing the point.
If OP posted meme here, presumably with without too much effort, it must've been fairly easy to find, then. If it was that easy to pull up, then it was likely from an era when low quality memes were common and 90s nostalgia was becoming popular online i.e. not the late 00s.

Retrojunk was very popular because of the 90s nostalgia that was spammed on the Internet in the late 2000s. I have to give ReignMan that one because I remember seeing early and mid 90s nostalgia more often in 2008 than 2000s nostalgia in 2017. Literally everything about 2000s nostalgia is basically the early 2000s, since that's when 90s influences was still around according to most people.

It wasn't as great as a phenomenon as the late 2000s though. I remember being in love with my Wii by the summer of 2008. I loved it so much that I brought it to my grandparents' house one time. I couldn't leave it alone by that point.

Retrojunk was popular since the early 00s and was created as an 80s nostalgia website. I recall stumbling over it back in 2007 and it was nothing but "80s!" this, and "70s!" that. The 90s kids took over around the turn of the decade.

It wasn't as great as a phenomenon as the late 2000s though. I remember being in love with my Wii by the summer of 2008. I loved it so much that I brought it to my grandparents' house one time. I couldn't leave it alone by that point.
If you googled "Video Game Consoles" back in 2011, the Xbox 360 and the Wii would be the two top image results. If the creator of that meme actually meant to put any real effort in, they wouldn't have chosen to represent "modern" popular video games with a console that isn't popular among techophiles, let alone spoiled children vying for the latest "graphix!". Judging by the quality of this meme, the creator likely wasn't meticulous in selecting era-accurate technology for this 10-second MS paint job. The "90s" TV is from the 1970s for cs.

The point of this thread is to see how dumb 90s kids memes were, since they weren't even related to the decade at all.

Missed my point too. 90% of memes from the late 00s are difficult to pull up from a simple google search nowadays. I'm pretty sure OP did not spend 30 minutes scouring the web for a 10-year-old meme when 90s nostalgia memes are far more ubiquitous now.

Exactly...why would it be hard to find a meme about '90s kids from the late '00s?

Because the 90s weren't a popular decade to reminisce over in the late 00s.

While trying to stay out of this argument, I'll just say what I remember about '90s nostalgia during the late '00s.

Around early 2005 was when I first started to get nostalgic for the '90s after finding some old VHS tapes I'd recorded as a kid. At that time, though, there was very little '90s nostalgia stuff online. '80s nostalgia still dominated, with perhaps some slight early '90s nostalgia. After 2006, when YouTube came along and social media started taking off, I started seeing considerably more '90s nostalgia, but it was still largely overshadowed by '80s nostalgia. Most '90s nostalgia at this time could be found on the YouTube comment section, and on MySpace and Facebook. The movement seemed to pick up quite a bit of steam around 2009 and 2010, and had pretty much totally overshadowed '80s nostalgia by 2011.

I remember I met a walking and talking kid born in 2000 for the first time in the summer of 2008, and I said "aw, you missed out on the '90s. That sucks!" ;D

I liked collecting retro games from the '90s back in the late 2000s, and people were nostalgic for them. I posted in a few '90s nostalgia threads in the late 2000s on another board. I think 2010 is when '90s nostalgia really blew up.

HAHA, you proved my point. However, '90s nostalgia blew up in 2012 not 2010. In 2010, there was still more '80s nostalgia than '90s.

I think it was around 2010 when Toy Story 3 came out, and also there was a meme/trend on Facebook in 2010, where people changed their profile pics to their favourite cartoon character, and a lot of people picked '90s stuff. (I picked Bloo from Foster's Home from 2004 though ;D).

It might have reached its zenith in 2012. That's when the Icona Pop song said "You're from the '70s but I'm a '90s bitch", and that song played all the time at parties.

The '90s nostalgia reached it's zenith in 2014 or 2015. It has it pre-rise phase from 2007-2009, it's rising phase in 2010-2011 and it's bloom phase from 2012-2015. Now, it's in the steady and slow decline phase but it's still here.

What does this prove? Again it's mostly members of this board that expressed sizable interest in 90s nostalgia in the late 00s. Most 90s nostalgia in the 00's was early 90s because it was similar to the 80s. I'm actually currently seeing far more 00's nostalgia now in 2017 than 10 years ago for the 90s.

I wasn't talking to you. Anyways, look at Slowpoke and mach!ne_he@d's posts to find your answer. You seem think that '90s nostalgia just popped out of nowhere in the early 2010s and that's pretty silly, IMO.
