Subject: How would you rank the 2010s for Music?

Written By: HazelBlue99 on 08/19/17 at 4:25 am

Generally speaking, i'm not a fan of 2010s music at all. In this instance, my rankings are based on the years that I dislike the least. Nevertheless, this is how I would personally rank the 2000s years in order of best to worse.

1. 2010
2. 2011
3. 2017
4. 2015
5. 2013
6. 2014
7. 2016 - (Honestly, i'm not even familiar with most of the songs that were released last year)
8. 2012  8-P

Hopefully 2018 and 2019 will shape up to be somewhat decent years for music. Although, i'm certainly not holding my breath...

I liked the 2010s for music, some years more than others though :)

1. 2016  (my favorite year for music from any decade actually)
2. 2015
3. 2011
4. 2010
5. 2017 (nowhere near as good as last year, but still pretty good)
6. 2012
7. 2013
8. 2014 God that year was pretty bad 8-P

2016
2017
2010
2011
2012

We both agree 2012 was the worst year for music  ;D

2012 was a horrible year for me personally, so that probably plays a part in it as well.

It's hard for me to pick. There's songs I love in every year. Some years, like 2016/2017, I can find the sound generally agreeable but there aren't many songs that I care a lot about, but there are years like 2014 where the general sound is hit or miss but I found a lot of songs with a lot of meaning to me. But trying it anyway...

From best to worst

1. 2010
2. 2014
3. 2011
4. 2012
5. 2015
6. 2013
7. 2016
8. 2017

I loved every single year though. I mean even though 2016 is all the way down there, I enjoyed it. 2017 still isn't even over.

A lot of people really liked that era.  In fact, I would say that it was probably my favorite era for music in my entire lifetime or at least since the '90s.

I am disappointed by the way this decade turned out in almost every way.  Music, politics, culture, and my personal life all went to garbage around 2013.  The decade had such a promising and optimistic start.

3. 2013 - Good, Perfect balance of early 10's/Electropop & Mid 10's/Core 10's trends

4. 2012 - Good, although the early 10's sound in music was starting to become stale by this point

5. 2014 - Decent

6. 2015 - Decent

7. 2016 - Meh...

Between 2010 and 2012 music, it's amazing how much of a 2 year difference can effect how good or bad music can become. I think 2014 was underrated though, half of that year was an extension of 2013 TBH. Fall 2015 was a decent stretch too.

Because there was more to music in 2010 than what dominated the radio. I would give a list of amazing albums released that year but I know it'll be ignored so just take my word for it.

2010 is still in my bottom 4. Only 2017 was slightly more terrible. The worst was 2012, second worst 2011, third worst 2017 and fourth worst 2010. Only thing that saves 2010 was Eminem making his comeback that year. The rest of the music was more or less trash imo.

And I've said this before but the best year in music was 2013, second best 2015, third best 2014, and fourth best 2016 (2016 was also a terrible year for music). All in all, 2013, 2014, and 2015 were all solid years for music in my opinion. Especially 2013, which I think was the best year in music since the last 12 years. That was an amazing year for music and culture.

The word Selfie actually started in early 2013. However the culture did start before that in 2012 when almost everyone had smartphones.

I dunno, probably a 7 out of 10 overall, which is not as bad of a score as it may look. Certainly I like Gen X music more overall (late 70s to early 00s), but I like music of 2008-2016 so much more than peak 2000s music.

The 2010s were really good for underground music. YouTube has opened up opportunities to find really good underground songs while it was harder to find in the 2000s. However, this decade was generally terrible for mainstream music.

You know the worst thing I hated about this decade was the music, spending my early twenties working a tiling on my dads family business hearing the same old teen pop? Of the mid 010s. And they repeat the music All the time why do have to repeat it all the time? It would drive me mental a 9 to 5 with radio one on would make me lose my sanity so I just used to work in silence those were the worst years of my life I had no idea how I got threw it what the hell kind of life was I living?,  I've got better career prospects now though and the late 010s music is much better so the dark days are behind me

In terms of music and culture, the mid '10s were by far the best period of this decade and 2013 as well. But the music and culture of the early and late '10s suck, especially the early '10s. I am blinded by nostalgia that's why I liked early '00s pop but I am old enough to realize early 2010s culture and music is really bad.

I don't agree, but it's of course a matter of personal taste. I can't stand the songs on the radio, all of those since 2014, but especially since 2015. While maybe 2010-2013 had far more cheesy songs, they also had far better hits. Now every songs sounds bland to me.

Yeah I'll give you that 2016 and 2017 were actually fantastic years for rock music, especially since a lot of older bands are releasing new music of great quality, such as Green Day.

Since the entire 2010's decade is over and I've gotten older, my opinion on this has changed significantly.  ;D

I honestly regret ranking 2013 so low. It's very hard to rank them because I honestly liked all years. Here's how I'd rank them using https://www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100

Best to worst:

2012

Come to think of it, I can move 2012 up some spots, even to the top. That year had a lot of variety, and I'm starting to feel nostalgic about it. That being said, here's my updated ranking. The mid-10's years were rearranged as well as those were harder to rank.

What I liked was the revival of 1996 music, with songs released by Garbage, Alanis Morissette, No Doubt, Smashing Pumpkins, and Matchbox 20. In addition I actually liked "Call Me Maybe" by CRJ and "Wide Awake" by Katy Perry.

2013 was the best year for music and 2018 was the worst year of music. Although 2012 comes very close to being the worst year for music, it's in second place. 2018 takes the spot as the worst because it was simply irredeemable. In fact, 2018 was the worst year for pop culture in general of the decade, not just music. But again, 2018 and 2012 are neck and neck when it comes to that. Both very boring and bad years pop culturally. In my humble opinion of course.

I agree with you on 2018. Most popular songs on the chart were either Drake hits ("Nice for What" is great, but his other pop songs were meh to awful), songs by obscure artists (Bazzi and Lauv), trap (Cardi B, Post Malone, and Travis Scott), or mumble/Soundcloud rap (XXX and Juice WRLD).

When I was in my last year of high school, all I heard on the radio that was recent was Cardi B, Travis Scott, Ariana Grande, Drake, and Camila Cabello. All the time.  2019 was kinda an improvement, albeit not by that much. 2018 will probably be looked as one of the most boring years in pop culture history.

I actually liked 2018, especially the later half, even though the Late 2010's as a whole was my least favorite part of the decade musically. I mainly liked it because of Ariana Grande and Dua Lipa's albums (particularly "One Kiss" by Dua Lipa and "Blazed" by Ariana Grande). I liked Drake's album of that summer, and I'm not a Cardi B fan but I liked the "I Like It" song. I also liked one song by Bazzi ("Mine"), and the Jackie Chan song was catchy. I also liked some of Post Malones songs, especially "Psycho".

I already posted my list but decided to revise it since the decade is now over

2011
2014
2015
2013
2016/2019 (tie)
2010
2012
2018
2017

Obviously I'm more biased towards the early half of the decade, but that's because I was in high school at the time (graduated 2013) and I have more fond memories. I really haven't found much music that I like past 2015. 2016 was a good year for alternative music and a lot of older bands released albums or went on tour that year. On the other hand 2016 also saw the beginning of the same repetitive, dreary formula that almost every pop song of the last 4 years has. 2019 was a bit of an improvement as I actually heard a few songs that I like.
