Subject: The 2010s culture is terrible but I feel like we are heading in good ways.

Written By: kingofthetemple on 11/25/17 at 8:24 am

Our current culture is getting very long in the tooth and I'm starting to feel it.Theres definitely not that exciting pop culture feel of the 00s.Music is still bland with a little diversity coming back and I don't want to always look underground for music.Movies are still super hero and bland,I love the technology though.tv isn't too bad and seems to be improving more and more.i just want fun and exciting culture back so 2020s kids can brag.I miss how wrestling use to be so enteraining but now it's boring with no characters.I love the clothes of now that one good thing. Our pop girls are as bland as ever and they certainly aren't no Gaga or Britney.Idk the atmosphere just feels gloomy and we need new Outlook and our videogames need to improve. If I was in in charge of pop culture the 10s would of been the best decade yet and maybe they are too some but to me no way selfie, hipster,Tumblr,Netflix culture is long in the tooth and pretty boring at this point.

To me the 00s were those good days especially 2000-2006 and people may get nostalgic for the 10s in the future but now we need a new culture it's time for a new ecxitment.Bit with all that said with Trump,Nintendo switch.some diversity in music again,2018 real close,Rosanne coming back, net nuetrality will get us of the internet and phone more and that could be a start for better human communication we are so heading in the right direction!!!! :P (thanks for answering)

That is just your opinion. I like 2010s music, movies, fashion and technology. Not everyone dislike it  :)

I agree. The 2010s have their ups and downs just like any other decade. No decade is perfect. Personally, one thing I love about this decade is the hip-hop. I am a big fan of trap music and I liked what 2017 had to bring to the table. It's also easier to stay in touch with friends thanks to things like Instagram, Snapchat, and smartphones. I am excited for the 2020's and I can't wait to see what we will have ten years from now

I wouldn't call it terrible. It's actually pretty nice IMO. I think it's better then the 00s.

To me, the early ‘90s (1990-1992) were legions ahead of the rest of the ‘90s to the present. They were not perfect, but no time is perfect.

You don't miss 1999? The year 1999 was the first and most important year of the 2000s duodecennium. Of course, we did not know that at the time, but '99 never felt like a '90s year.

Here's how I see the 2000s:

1999: The start of this millennium! From this point forward, everyone knew this century would be full of the Pokemon Trading Card Game being at every toy store, new Star Wars films that are not as good as the ones from the original trilogy, and teen pop.

2000-2010: Filler. In this time, we were moving away from 1999 towards the year 2011 and 1999 was the better year out of all of the '00s.

I do not know about you, but I would much rather live in '99 again than any year that came after it. That is my two cents. :)

yeah 1998-2003 was awesome as well.I just wish the 2010s had cool vibes like 1998-2003 had the 2010s are too stuck on keeping one type of culture until 2020.

How did the early '80s look like the '70s? ???

No one had posters of Jimmy Hendrix, peace signs, and Spock on their bedroom walls in the early '80s.

Do you know what the '80s were?

The '80s were the time of all things Star Wars, the Muppets being popular, rugby pullovers, the '50s revival, and Michael Jackson.

1978 was the year when the original Star Wars Kenner figures were released on cards, Michael Jackson played the Scarcrow in The Wiz, Happy Days was the second top-rated show in the US, rugby pullover shirts were being sold at every major clothing chain, and The Muppet Movie was being filmed. So yes, 1978 was the first year of the 1980s. The rest of the '80s (1979-1989) were about moving on from 1978.

If the next popular music genre will be something like electro swing or electro jazz, technology gets fun and cool again, fashion becomes more dark and baggy, and other stuff improve, I am really gonna like the big culture that comes, whenever that may be. We have not had a proper cultural shift since 2008. We need a brand new culture with new aesthetics and trends and I hope it comes soon. I hope I will enjoy it. 2017 really sucks for culture so I hope the next culture is something enjoyable.

The Samsung Galaxy X (curved display smartphone) is confirmed that will be released in 2018, so this may bring a new era where smartphones will be more of a fashion statement, than just a boring device like it does today. This will be like back in the 2000s where people bought the Motorola Razr because it looked cool and it was fashionable. I am very excited for this, a brand new form factor for smartphones is coming and this will be what the 2020s will be about. People will actually buy phones that look cool again rather than just boring specs that are the same on all phones now.

Right, and that makes 2008 the first year of the late 2000s. Early '10s culture (i.e.-Breaking Bad) was being introduced in '08 while the new culture of the W. Bush 2000s was on it's way out or changing its form.

Late 2006 was the first year of the late 2000s

ps3, wii, Hannha Montana, Disney era etc

I really think people are going to miss 2010s music once it's gone. I've made my peace with it and have even grown to like a lot of it, from twentyonepilots to Sia.

I agree.  There is a lot I don't like about this decade, especially living in the rural South, but that is more my own personal circumstances and not the overall culture.  It really took me until this year to realize a lot of this and that has helped me to start enjoying '10s culture.

I feel like 2018 is going to be the start of the transition and the 2020s will be as different from the '10s as the '90s were from the '80s.  We are approaching another generational shift as we moved from Millennial culture to Gen Z culture.  '80s-born people like myself probably won't resonate much with '20s culture.  I'm trying to enjoy the '10s as much as I can while it's still here.

I used to think late '00s and early '10s were one era but I don't anymore. Now I think 2006 was the first year of the late 2010s and the late '00s had its own distinct culture.

The Samsung Galaxy X (curved display smartphone) is confirmed that will be released in 2018, so this may bring a new era where smartphones will be more of a fashion
statement, than just a boring device like it does today. This will be like back in the 2000s where people bought the Motorola Razr because it looked cool and it was fashionable. I am very excited for this, a brand new form factor for smartphones is coming and this will be what the 2020s will be about. Microsoft is also rumored to launch a foldable phone in a couple of years. It seems in the early 2020s flip flop phones are getting back in a phablet form

Samsung is releasing one next year and there is already one out for sale now by ZTE. But the ZTE phone looks very primitive still and there is a huge bezel in the middle of the fold.

Why in September of 2006?

Because mathematically September of the year ending in 6 is always the start of the last third of the decade, in this case September 1st 2006 was the start of the late 2000s. September of the 7th year is always the numerical start of the late part of a decade.

Good, because pop culture is imploding and I've just tuned out of current music and TV. There literally only 1 top 40 song from this year I have on my playlist, and it's because it sounds like early-mid 00's latin pop.

It's just 00's music, 00's cartoons and Netflix for me now.

Wow, I saw a similar curved phone from this one late '90s or early '00s ad I saw in an old National Geographic trying to predict the future.

heck yeah dude 00s rock!!!!!! The 2010s mainstream gives people like shemp97 and myself no choice to go back to the 00s for music and even TV as well and I know one of you will be like oh the 2010s aren't that bad but really most of it is your just saying there not that bad because your in the 10s but think hard about the 10s and give a list of legit reasons why the 10s aren't as trashy as they seem besides the good technology.

You call the 2000s a "decade", I call them a "duodecennium"... To each its own, I guess.

I honestly enjoy the 2010s. I tune it on my streaming account daily and my music culture skyrocketed in the last few years. I discovered this year that Snapchat is really fun when you're trying (and mostly failing) to take decent group selfies with your friends. And of course I couldn't live without my Netflix :D. #LifeIsVeryComfyInThe2010s

And by 2026 when everyone's gonna be sick of 2020s bullsheesh, y'all gonna look back at this decade very kindly. Y'all know this.

fashion is getting baggy again
I still see skinny jeans and yoga pants everywhere, while baggies and flared pants once in a great while.
Though I noticed runaways and high fashion are painfully trying to shove bell bottoms back in street fashion again these last few years ::)

Shameless plug for my 2010s music playlist here. I hated it when it was happening and popular, but I have gradually come around to it.

I'd say 2010s is "terrible" because everything's been mediocre, as far as I can tell. I think it's been getting slightly better, but not by much. Eh, everything after the mid 80s has seen a decrease in quality overall, it's just this decade has had that at all fronts. Almost everything is mediocre; fit for average, not much extreme or outrageous or memorable. Only comparison could be the 90s, but at least there was some good stuff then.

Also please dear god do not make baggy clothes come back. Only really good thing about this decade has been that baggy finally died a year or two ago...

To me, 1983 to 1995 was my most favorite era of pop culture, ever.  :o
