Subject: When did the 2010s really become into its form

I think we might already know,but I need a reminder ;)

When emo died and guys started wearing their hair short again. When music tried to sound more grown-up and less miserable (only succeeded for the latter, but otherwise ended up sounding bland).

That was a tough one. I chose 2010 because even 2009 was technically separate from the rest of the 00's, culturally.

2013, fully.

2010 is already very "2010s" in its own way, so my vote goes to that. A lot of the trends that are popular today got their start in 2012/2013 though.

I'm split between 2010 and 2011. On the one hand, 2010 obviously was the first year of the New Tens, the beginning of the end for emo as a subculture, and began the notorious reign of the Tea Party in U.S. politics. On the other hand, 2011 had killing Osama Bin Laden, Occupy Wall Street, and officially having indie/hipster music crowd out emo music on the radio.

Here's how I personally see it:
2010: 50% 10s and 50% 00s.
2011: 80% 10s and 20% 00s
2012: 100% 10s

Though the early 10s were different than both the 00s, and the rest of the 10s. The culture we see now didn't really start until around 2013.

I personally see 2009 as more 50% 2000's and 50% 2010's. 2010 was more 2010's culturally than 2000's IMO.

Late 2008/2009 was a fresh start to me.

I agree

You're missing late 2008 and 2009, I would choose that personally. Wasn't core 2010s yet but it certainly felt like we entered a new decade at that point.

I'd say 2010 was pretty much 100% 2010s with a few late 2000s holdovers around.

Also the specific culture we see now didn't start in 2013, it started in 2016. The general atmosphere of culture we have today has its roots all the way back to 2008 though.

2010's culture took over by 2012 with the Trayvon Martin incident and the rise of mass shootings (Chardon, Aurora Theater, Sikh Temple, Sandy Hook, etc).

However, I believe that it did not really completely become into its full form until 2014 with the Crimean Crisis, the Elliot Rodger rampage (this is likely one of the strongest contributors to the rise of SJW and alt-right movements), the Migrant Crisis (yet again, also one of the strongest reasons why SJW and alt-right movements are both rising), the rise of ISIS, and the Ferguson riots.

Core 2010's began around Late 2012/Early 2013.

I'll say the 2011-12 year. That's when smartphones became a thing; superhero films already established, and Apple was now a close company since Steve Jobs died.

Agree with everything mentioned.
