2012, in my opinion, was the first year that leaned more 2010's than 2000's.

*The Trayvon Martin incident
*Mass shootings became a bigger issue than they were in previous years.
*Electropop was fading that year - I also believe that dubstep was at its peak in 2012. EDM also started to rise that year.

It is actually very hard to believe that it was six years ago, because it was the first year that seems to have some elements that are still around today.

IMO 2010 was the first year that leaned more early 2010's than 2000's. 2011 was already about as early 2010's as you could get.

You're supposed to upload your images to an image hosting website such as imgur.com. ;)

As for YouTube, you should strip the video's "code" and put it in between the YouTube tags. So for https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KleUddM2IPw, you would take the KleUddM2IPw portion and put it in between the YouTube tags like

2012 was the absolute worst year of my life. I hated it. It was also the worst year for pop culture this decade because I remember that year the autotune electropop trend getting very stale and old. I distinctly remember thinking how a terrible year 2011 was and how 2012 should be an improvement, man was I wrong.  ;D But then 2013 came along and my life improved a lot since then. The early 2010s can stay in hell.  8-P

Late 2012 to all of 2013 was the best time of my life. 2013 was my golden age. I also love the atmosphere that 2013 had. It was a perfect mixture of early 2010's culture and mid/core 2010's trends. It wasn't exactly like say 2010 but it also wasn't really like 2016.

The Nexus 7 also came out that year, Google's foray into tablets. I bought it, and it was the most useless thing I ever bought. I feel like Millennials (1980-1996ish) have zero use for tablets. We're tech literate enough to be adept at using PCs (unlike older people), and we didn't get into them as kids like younger people. To us, they're just completely pointless.

No, I disagree. 2012 was a solid early 2010s year and it was identical to 2011. The music was exactly the same as 2011. It was purely early '10s. 2013 on the other hand, was the weird in between year you're talking about. It was still early 2010s for the most part, but it was transitional. As for smartphones, everybody had smartphones in 2011 too and they were commonplace then.

No the core 2010s started in 2011. 2012 was simply a early 2010s year, nothing more.

I always see 2011 and 2012 as two of the most similar pair of years in this decade.

Yes it was... It literally had the same style of music for both years. And yeah they were two of the most similar years this decade. They were both 100% solid early 2010s years. 2010 was similar although it had a couple little holdovers from the late 2000s as not everyone had a smartphone then and a couple other small things which is why it isn't the core part of the decade, but 2011 was the first core year of the 2010s and is when the core 2010s started.

I agree with this. 2012, not 2008 is the farthest back year that seems somewhat connected with today for the reasons you mention. 2012 was still solidly in the electropop era but it was becoming long in the tooth. Lady Gaga wasn't quite as popular that year or so it seemed. Teen pop on the other hand was much bigger that year with "Call Me Maybe" being inescapable that summer and mid '10s boy bands like One Direction really taking off. The Hunger Games came out that year which in my opinion was one of the movies that defined the mid '10s and kicked off the dystopian future craze.

In my personal life 2012 was an awful year and was the beginning of the nightmare I am currently still living in.

I agree with this. Many people consider 2007 the first modern year just because of the release of the iPhone, but they forget that the first iPhone couldn't do about half if not more of the stuff that today's iPhones could. I think the biggest change was the release of the app store in July 2008. That literally changed the way we used our smartphones and it makes 2008 seem kind of connected to today.

I wish he would just get banned so we can go back to actually having interesting discussion on these boards instead of everything turning into an argument with him.  Some of the best posters don't post here much anymore because of it.  Slowpoke posts much less.  You don't hear a lot out of #Infinity anymore.
Or at least take a break. It's unbelievable that he's Canadian, but acts like a stereotypical American at the same time.

Are you kidding me? Of course I remember that. I was happy, not mad like you said. I was laughing, nothing wrong with that. Nice try though. Went through ancient threads only to prove my point even more lol.
If you were happy, then why did it sound like you were complaining? ::)

Sorry but you disagreeing with what I have to say like me respectfully thinking 2012 sucked (and all others annoyed by that too) is not grounds for getting banned. But you attacking me for it and ganging up on me is. Yoy guys are the ones starting these decadology discussions too, not me. I simply reply to them which I have every right to do.

You said in your opinion that 2012 was terrible, but as soon someone else says it was great, then you tell them he or she is wrong. That doesn't sound like respecting a opinion to me.

No I didn't say it to them once. And the fact that you can't quote me on that proves you're lying. Nice try, again. If you think 2012 was great that is good for you and I don't care and I never cared about that, you are looking at things to attack me with that aren't even there. I said 2012 sucked which I have every right to say.

Asking why someone likes an era is not against the rules, and I wasn't mad about that at all. So you're wrong on that point too. You can say all you want I was mad, but I wasn't, simple as that. Which means that you were completely wrong on that and looking for an ancient thread proved nothing as nowhere was I ever mad.

You didn't say it on this topic, but you said it on others. You have argued with them that their opinions are wrong. There's a difference between disagreeing with someone and telling a person his or her viewpoint is wrong.

I never said that it was, but you asked that question while laughing and being disappointed.

No I didn't say that someone is wrong for liking 2012... Find me one quote where I said that. You are simply lying now and it's kind of sad lol. You are making things up in your head that I've never done at this point. And yeah, you are attacking me. You are so butthurt over my opinion that I don't like the early 2010s or 2012 that you are coming after me personally and saying how I am a bad member on this forum when I didn't do anything wrong and called you out for lying about saying things that weren't true. Give it up already. I have a different opinion than you, so deal with it. I have every right to say I hate 2012. There's hundreds of them, but they're hard to find because you made that same statement on multiple threads. Anyway, the evidence is there with you arguing with others. There's no need for quotes since everyone knows you hated the early 10s and I already posted one about you disliking 2010. We get it.

You were disappointed though.

I didn't derail the topic. You did. The thread was made for nostalgic purposes, not to debate whether the year was transformative.

Disappointed? Show me the quote. Oh that's right you can't because that never happened either. I was never dissapointed. Yet another lie, first I was mad and now disappointed and all of this is made-up lies coming from your head that you can't prove because it never happened. I don't care what year or someone likes and don't get disapointed over it, you've got to be kidding me. Maybe you should speak for yourself. You think I don't have enough stuff to worry about being in university than being sad over what era someone likes? You are wrong and I proved you wrong already. You have zero evidence so what you are saying is purely a lie just to get an argument going. I was never disapointed, mad, or anything. You made that all up in your head and failed miserably. It's absolutely pathetic the lengths you go to in making up these lies about me, and for what reason? Because you don't like my opinion? So childish and just plain sad.

No you did... Who was the one looking for quotes in previous threads? You not me. I did not make the point of the year being transformative, someone else did. I never start these topics, I just reply to them. So you're absolutely wrong I did not derail the thread someone else mentioned it being transformative and I disagreed. You keep derailing the thread by making lies about me on here and saying things that have nothing to do with the thread at all.

Seems like you do care, a lot. If you didn't care this argument wouldn't have started in the first place. You take eras way too seriously and the moment someone says they don't like a year, like me saying I don't like 2012, your head explodes lol.

Your question asking why people enjoyed the music of 2010 implied you were disappointed because you expected others to despise the year and the rest of the early 10s era.

Actually you did derail. Here are the quotes that you replied to.

2012 had a weird vibe IMO. The electropop era of 2009-2011 was dying, Smartphones were everywhere, but most mid-2010’s trends didn’t even appear yet.

Yup. It's stuck between the the electropop era and the core 2010s, it has some trends from both

Then Longaotian00 said this.

The music wasn't identical, I don't see them as the most similar, end of story.

With you saying this

Yes it was... It literally had the same style of music for both years. And yeah they were two of the most similar years this decade. They were both 100% solid early 2010s years. 2010 was similar although it had a couple little holdovers from the late 2000s as not everyone had a smartphone then and a couple other small things which is why it isn't the core part of the decade, but 2011 was the first core year of the 2010s and is when the core 2010s started.

Then Sharksfan saying this to you.

Your opinion is not fact. Just because someone has a different opinion to you, does not mean that they are incorrect.

Stop denying that reality. You derailed the thread plain and simple. Oh, and I never said you mentioned it was a transformative year. I said it was a nostalgic topic, but for some reason the topic turned into a debate about whether it leaned one decade or another.

I didn't start the argument. It already exploded long before I jumped in. Anyway, this argument is over.

Yes you are the one who kept this argument going on which is just as bad as starting it. And you saying "it implied" means NOTHING. What you think in your head doesn't mean it's the truth. And the truth is I was not disappointed or sad about people liking an era I liked. And I had every right to ask WHY people liked the era. Whatever you think it "implies" doesn't make it right or true, so you are wrong and you keeo spreading these lies just to get an argument going, plain and simple. Stop arguing like this and bringing up quotes because it's making you look pathetic. I responded to someone saying I disagree with them on this thread when they said 2011 and 2012 were different WHICH I HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO DO.
