Subject: 2016

Written By: Slim95 on 02/21/18 at 12:16 am

This thread is devoted to everything that happened in 2016, both good and bad. We can come back to here in the future. Will you be nostalgic for this year? Discuss.

Err....the only reason I'm nostalgic for 2016 is because it was part of the overall Obama era (the part I really liked was the early part).  The year itself sucked.  It was still better than 2013 and 2014 though.

A complete mixed bag, there was certainly fun to have (I did on a personal level). But with all the celebrity deaths, Brexit, the Trump election, the countless ISIS attacks, the whole year felt like a "Jump the Shark" ;D

It's one of the most memorable years for this decade for sure.

Oh and music-wise it was alright. Some great albums came out (mainly by already established acts like Radiohead and Bowie's last). Popular music-wise, it was when trap rap really got huge, when the whole mumbling trend was established, it was a mix of catchy songs (Work from Home, Cheap Trills), snoozefests (Work, Hands to Myself) and some of the worst hit songs this decade (Closer, Treat You Better).

The sad thing is 2016 was about the closest thing to a good year I had in the last 5 years. Well, actually 2015 was overall better. But the first half of 2016 was really good, it continued the good vibe of 2015 and made it even better. The second half was bad because I had 3 deaths in the family, 1 in September and 2 in November.

It was on this day in 2016, when Adele won four prizes including best British female solo artist and best album at this years Brit Awards, and Coldplay won Best British group, making them the most successful band in the ceremony's history.

2016 was honestly one of the worst years of my personal life so far, a lot worse than 2014, which in comparison makes me look back fondly on 2014 despite that year not being too good either. I was depressed in the summer of 2016 and barely hung out with friends. I really didn't feel like doing anything. Late 2016 did get a lot better though and I went back to normal, and I even kind of miss it a little bit sometimes. I'm so glad we aren't in that year anymore, but the music of 2016 was pretty good though.

He was on the news everywhere in late 2016 and basically all of 2017, but no one seems to talk about him anymore this year.

I think I read a news article about that but I haven't watched the video.

Was it this one?

If so that's pretty cool. Not adrenaline-releasing enough to re-watch 200 times, but cool.

2016 actually was a pretty sheeshty year for me in general. I got fired from my first job out of school, which had never happened before and thankfully hasn’t since. But it was such a toxic relationship that I felt like I was forced to stick it out because you can’t leave a job after only a year.

Definitely a game-changing year, and the transition from the mid 2010s to late 2010s. A year that shook global politics and culture to the core.

Im not sure about 2016. Wasn't really good or bad IMO. I quite liked it for the reason being it was 10 years since 2006 and some characters from my favourite shows were back. Apart from that, I just didn't like it and, my aunt died a year after her twin sister. I did like the later months of 2016 (September-December).

Yes a very strong contender for that title.

Now checking up on history for other contenders.

2016 feels like centuries ago.

It feels like a mixture of a long time ago, and recent to me, since I was 12 during that year.

To be honest, it only feels like "centuries ago" because of Trump, COVID, and the situation in Afghanistan. It none of those things happened, it would have just been a normal difference of 5 years. Hell, even 2018 partly feels like a long time ago.

I was 15/16 but so much sheesh has changed in my personal life and also stuff that happened that year that make it feel so distant. Mainly because personal life changes though.

2018 is the last year that feels fully recent to me.
