Subject: Your opinion on 2010's culture so far?

Written By: Rainbowz on 02/24/18 at 9:14 pm

Since we are pushing 2020 and almost finished with the decade, what do you think of the 2010's so far?
For me, I think the 2010's have their ups and downs. Overall, I do like the culture of the 2010's. I think this decade has been great for hip-hop (mainly 2011-now), games, fashion, TV Shows, and technology. Smartphones make it easier for us to keep in contact with people. The pop music of 2010-2013 was really good too.
There are some things I dislike about the 2010's though. I don't like the fact that we have so many reboots and sequels and barely any original content. Another is the number of mass shootings, our president (from 2017-now), and people always on their smartphones when you're trying to talk to them. Most of the EDM in this decade from about 2015 onwards sounds the same to me. I don't really like a lot of it.
Overall, the 2010's have their ups and downs but I mostly like the 2010's in terms of pop culture. What do you think of it?

I like it. My favourite thing about 2010s culture is better technology. Music is good. Movies are definitely good. Black panther was amazing

I love everything about this decade(minus Donald Trump, Nostalgia that stunts pop culture growth, etc.)! Even better, I'll get to say in the future I'm a 2010's kid!!! 2010 - 6 | 2017 - 12. ^_^

2010's nostalgia will likely begin sometime in the late 2020's / 2030's. It really does make me wonder how it'll be. Will it be as big as 90's nostalgia or will it just stay as an underground thing?

I think it will be bigger than 90s nostalgia. So much stuff happened in this decade and all of it is available on the internet which means it's much easier to find stuff from the 10s than other decades

Definitely has its own flair. Has its own sound (Trap in form of Trap rap, Trap the edm genre and Trap-influenced pop), its own look (hipster fashion, flat design, athleisure, skinny pants, undercut) and its own culture (the era of streaming and when social media became extremely affluent). Gives off a less scattered feel than the two previous decades, 90s and 2000s, do for instance.

Has a certain degree of uniqueness to it that probably will become more apparent the more we distant ourselves from it (depending on how the next decade shifts).

I really wish I would have been able to experience this decade under different circumstances.  I've liked the popular culture for the most part.

I can't wait until there is '20s nostalgia in the '40s (if we even make it until then lol). So then there will be things like '20s night and it will sound more natural than 2000s night or tens night. and just imagine nostalgia for a time that hasn't even happened yet as I write this.  ;D

Imagine the 2050s when the 00s and 10s are seen as vintage, people would be obsessed with reviving the 2020s and the 2030s and writing off how the 2040s sucked ;D

I think about this sometimes: how I'll (hopefully) be alive in the 2070s, and how the 2010s, this time we are living in right now, will be seen as ancient history.

it def does,  I would say right now where we are in the late 2010s  things are getting back to a more upbeat and happy atmosphere (yes I know the shootings and stuff are not good) you are seeing more things like Sitcoms coming back (Rosanne, Fuller House) The Economy is back,  things seem to be shifting out of the mid 2010s funk, the mid 2010s were so dark.

So far I am a huge fan of the late 2010s, they started off so weird tho in 2016 but you could tell around August of that year that Pokemon go was the mid 2010s swan song, I do like how things are not as bland as they were during the early 2010s/mid 2010. The whole flat design trend is actually changing a bit, I see more logos starting to be more fuller and have volume, we are going to be slowly transitioning away from Flat like logos in a few years. As far as Trap goes, I can't see it last more than another few months, right now it is on auto pilot,  Rap right now is overtaking pop so that will not change altho I can see Pop getting more Max Martin..y  and Pop Punks slow comeback.

I see Pokemon Go as a late 2010s trend. It started in summer of 2016 and while it technically died off, I still see a bunch of people on the streets playing it even today.

I did. Just a month ago it was a nice day outside and I saw like 15 people huddled in a group playing it on a street corner.

For my personal life this decade was good with the exception of 2010 - 2012. For pop culture, the entire decade was terrible except 2013 - 2015 was okay. As I've stated before, I think the early 2010s were the worst time for pop culture but the late '10s are pretty bad too.

Aren't people now seeing the early 2000s vintage or retro?

The early 2000s are not anywhere near vintage but they are almost retro. I'd give it another couple of years for them to be retro though. Only 1990s stuff is retro now.

Couldn't tell the difference between vintage and retro.

Couldn't tell the difference between vintage and retro.

Vintage is about 30 or 40 years back while retro is 20 years back, more or less. Vintage is a lot older than retro. Vintage is like stuff from the 1970s.

When I think of vintage, I think of stuff from the 40s-50s. The 70s-80s are imo too modern to be considered vintage (despite being old enough to be considered like that).
Actually the term "vintage" technically refers to anything that's older than 15 years, so anything from 2003 and before can be considered vintage without being incorrect :o
