Subject: Will the 2020s actually feel different?

Written By: kingofthetemple on 02/25/18 at 4:13 pm

What I mean by this is we have alot of technology now in the 2010s and while the 2020s will have more new tech will it really be as big as an revolutionary as what we have been progressing through for the past many decades.Like right now I feel technology is at a peak when it comes to excitement and we might have to wait til like 2030s or 40s or maybe further to get really futuristic. And with pop culture feeling like everything has been done before will the 2020s culture make it feel different from the 2010s maybe a little bit but how advanced we are now and how just about every type of pop culture has been done before will the 2020s really spawn a new culture that could make things feel different the way 70s,80s,90s,00s all felt different from eachother.Im starting to think until we get really futuristic like movie type futuristic decades will continue to feel like the 2010s. :)

Thanks for answering gen x,y,z

I think the 2020s will be different TV wise.

I hope so, but I think the year 2020 will still feel exactly like the late 2010’s. By 2029, it will be like a whole different decade.

Usually I don't make predictions about the far future because I'm not even close (who ever is?) but I want this thread to be bumped and for future people to see it ;D

*I think there will be more extreme weather which will create refugees and thus social unrest.
*I think China will become a huge centre for tech - perhaps surpassing Silicon Valley. I'm not sure if it will gain international attention.
*Solar power will become a lot more common.
*Self driving cars will be popular by the middle of the decade.
*Electric cars will take off by the end of the decade.
*Internet of Things will continue to get bigger
*Mobile digital payments will make physical credit cards/debit cards obsolete.
*Many countries will talk about phasing out physical currency.
*You will be bombarded with advertisements all the time. You walked by a bakery? Phone buzz! These guys have a discount going!

I might think of more later. I have millions of ideas rushing in my head ;D

Yeah it will. Every decade feels different. Just how different we will never know. One thing that will for sure happen is there will be 2010s kids saying they miss the 2010s soooo much.  ;D

I think a shift will happen somewhere in 2023/2024 and probably be as slowly progressive as the 2010s unless something sudden happens like a new recession or a revolution or whatever.

I would love to see new technologies that stick around and aren't just a bunch of fads like we saw this decade (Google glasses, Oculus Rift, Apple Watch, r.i.p.). The only one I can think of are drones.

We are already seeing the pre 2020s type vibe right now, its very early 2000s type vibe, it was caused by Trump and the death hipster culture.
I am going to copy and paste what I said before to further reinforce this idea lol

Fuller House/ Rosanne Sitcom comebacks (Hallmark 2# network on Cable)
MTV's  TRL return
Logos starting to have more volume
Return of Baggy clothing
Facebook decline (due to fights)
80s horror revival  (IT)
Death of dystopian tv shows
Donald Trump being president
Sling Tv/ DirectvNow/ youtube TV  overtaking Comcast and Cox
Lady Gaga and Katy Perry are now nostalgia acts

The 2020's will obviously feel different. We don't know how it'll be like, but the 2000's were different from both the 90's and 2010's, and the 80's were different from the 70's and 90's. No two decades are exactly the same.

So, yes, the 2020's will be different. Most of the things now will be seen as dated in 2028. I mean, take a look at 2008 vs now. There is a very noticeable difference.

I bet everything from today will be seen as dated at as early as 2023.

That is true. 2013 is already dated in some ways IMO. The fashion was a bit different then.

Music-wise, 2018 could possibly be dated as early as 2021. I mean, songs from 2015 already sound noticeably different.

Now that we're firmly in the late 2010's, I actually feel as if I can tell the difference between hip-hop songs made in the mid-2010's vs. now. I'm not exactly sure how to explain it. I feel like the late 2010's, at least when it comes to music, has already formed its own identity, but a lot of people aren't noticing it.

Yup I notice it. Music is very different now compared to the mid 2010s. Even Hip Hop. Trap Queen would sound out of place today. There is more mumbling involved now. And all other types of music is also completely different, almost as different as mid '10s music was to the early '10s.

I think the change will be much more severe than now compared to 2013. More change always comes so 2023 vs 2018 may feel so much more seperated than 2018 vs. 2013 and I have a feeling it will because a lot of change will probably come early next decade that will kick off the decade's culture.

I definitely agree. It wasn't until I listened to songs from 2015 was when I noticed it sounds different from today. We are definitely in the late 2010's now culturally.

On these forums we mostly discuss music and technology, but fashion is one aspect that I believe the 2010s have been very changeful, even moreso than the 2000s.  2010, 2014, and 2017 were all very different from each other.

Last decade of the Smartphone era, which started in 2008 with the iPhone release. Late 2020’s will feel more like 2030 than 2010’s. Also I feel in the mid-20s we will see the biggest changes in a long time

Is this is the first time that most places required everyone to wear masks due to COVID-19 or was they’re any other situation in history prior to COVID-19 that had every person having to wear masks?

There were mask requirements during the 1918 pandemic also. People reluctant to wear masks were called "mask slackers". I think we should bring that term back.

Now on city buses you get Rosie Perez telling New York to "wear a mask" for the new announcements, that sure feels different.
