Subject: Very 2010s stuff.

Written By: ofkx on 03/09/18 at 6:10 am

Just thought that it would be a fun idea to post things that are extremely, undeniably from this decade. It could be anything from songs, to movies, to books, basically anything related to pop culture.
I'll start:

This thread can act as a time capsule for future members.

This damn haircut.

This haircut was literally everywhere. I don't think I've seen any other hairstyle this popular among young men. Around late 2017 is when it just started to lose steam. It is undeniably 2010s.

Manbuns haven't been popular since 2016ish, but I think undercuts in general have been VERY popular this decade. Especially this kind:
https://www.menshairstyletrends.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/ambarberia-mens-undercut-beard-1.jpg
I personally find the haircut ugly and very generic. Although I admit that I was tempted to get it a couple of years ago since it was so popular.

Actually Lady Gaga peaked in 2011 at the latest with Born This Way.  I would say her peak was The Fame Monster in 2009-10.  She was still relevant but past her peak by the time we got to the core 2010s.  Today she's a legacy artist, as evidenced by the fact she's going to Vegas.

Last time I checked, 2011 was still part of the 2010s and she is a 2010s artist by far considering her success in the early 2010s... Just because she wasn't popular in the middle portion doesn't make her any less of a '10s artist. In fact, she is the quenessential 2010s singer, her, adele, and Taylor Swift. So I don't what you're trying to say because what I said wasn't wrong. You would be wrong if you think she isn't a 2010s artist. Anything with her in it screams 2010s. Not to mention, 2010s culture was most definitive in the early part. I would think you of all people would agree with that considering how much you liked the era. Also she did't fall off the face of the earth. She still has a fan base, performs at the Superbowl, and releases new songs from time to time all throughout this decade.

These pictures just scream 2010's. The fashion, iPhone, Makeup, and also the fact that they most likely uploaded it to Instagram or maybe even Snapchat. It doesn't get any more 2010's than that.

When you google image "2010s culture" things like Glee come up and collages of early 2010s trends. That just proves the early 2010s are the most difinitive part of this decade. There is no way people will remember this decade more from things that happened in the middle and late portion than all the stuff in the early 2010s, at least culturally speaking. Lady Gaga, Adele, Glee, IPhones, Minecraft, Yolo, Swag, Justin Bieber, electropop, bright colours, etc all define the 2010s really well and they are all from the early 2010s.

I strongly disagree. There is more to the 2010's than just the early part. This decade hasn't even finished yet, so of course, you're going to find stuff mainly from the early portion of this decade. There is a lot more to the 2010's than just Lady Gaga, Glee, Electropop, etc. It's not just electropop. Trap rap and EDM are definitely one of the most popular music genres of this decade.
When I think of the 2010's, the very first year that pops up is 2016, due to how much crazy stuff that happened in that year especially with the election of trump and everyone being shocked. Pokemon GO was popular. Then came fidget spinners in 2017. Right now, Fortnite is probably one of the most popular games so far and I can definitely see people reminiscing about it in the future.
You can't really say if there is "no way" people will remember the mid-late portion of this decade more than the early part because the 2010's haven't ended yet and 2010's nostalgia hasn't gotten big yet.

The culture just wasn't as strong and definitive in the later parts of the decade. The only parts I would associate culturally are the more in your face things like fidget spinners and Pokemon Go, but other than that, all of the main culture people were really into gets traced back to the early 2010s. Just as the culture of the 2000s was the most definitive in the early 2000s. It seems like the early part of the decade is always the most definitive (at least that was the pattern from the last three decades, maybe the 2020s will be different).

I’d say Early-Mid 2010’s are far more iconic; iPhone 4s/6, Breaking Bad, Harlem Shake, Macklemore, Avicii, Indietronica, Gangnam Style, Angry Birds, Minecraft, GTA 5, SWAG/YOLO are part of the unique pop-culture of the 2010’s. Instead of the Late 2010’s; where stuff like iPhone X type cellphones, trap, new generation of Pop artists (Camila Cabello, Dua Lipa, etc.), even Fortnite and PUBG will most likely to be part of the early 2020’s

I was surprised that dubstep went out so quickly.  It was everywhere in 2011 and by 2013 it wasn't really a big thing anymore.  However it does seem to be coming back a bit, in EDM circles.

Again, even though it went out quickly it was still a vital part of this decade considering its huge popularity from 2010 - 2013. Also, in 2013 it WAS still a thing. That's the year it faded out though. And it really isn't coming back. It was an early 2010s (and general 2010s) thing.
