The early portion of decades are always similar to previous one. It's not like everything (or even anything) changes as soon as it hits 1st January 2020, as much as some people here would like it to be the case :P

I don't know, but I do not think '90s ended in 2001. It ended in 1998. Same as the 2000s. Anyways I do believe in the case for the '20s there will be a lot of 2010s holdovers in the early '20s, but some parts of 2020s culture may arrive as early as this year.

Not always. It certainly wasn't the case for the 2000s and 2010s. Like 2000 did not feel like the 1990s at all just as 2010 didn't feel like the 2000s anymore. I'm not sure how it was like in the 1990s as I wasn't alive then but I did here 1980s didn't completely go away until like 1991. That may happen for the 2020s where we may remain in 2010s culture until 2021.

It depends if something big happens in the early years, otherwise it is a slow process that will probably take shape around 2022-2023. 2018 doesn't seem be the new 2008, so the 2020s culture might be entirely contained in its own decade  :P

Right now, it seems like we are firmly in the late 2010's. We don't actually know if there are signs of 2020's culture because we don't know how the 2020's will be like yet. We'll need to wait until we are no longer in the current era that we are in now to see where the first signs of early 2020's culture began.

Core 2020s: probably sometime around 2023. Like every other decade, the early 2020s will probably still be filled with holdovers from this decade.

I thought 2018 would be a big transitional year but it's not looking that way. I have a feeling '20s culture will either start on time, or start around 2021. There is a small chance that huge change may come in the 2018 - 2019 school year and that early '20s culture will start early, but I really doubt it there is absolutely zero sign of any culture changing anytime soon. It's like we are still comfortably in the late 2010s and even the core 2010s and the culture and general vibe just doesn't want to let up. Having said that I do think we are around the peak but the peak may last quite a long time.

People shouldn't wish what's left of '10s culture away.  In five years, most people on this board will probably be nostalgic for it.  While this has not been a great decade for my personal life, I think I am really going to miss the pop culture; perhaps even more than the '00s.
