Subject: Why is 2015 the most liked year in the 2010s?

Written By: Wobo on 04/12/18 at 6:44 pm

I know there was already too many threads for 2015 but why is 2015 the most liked year? When it ended we looked back of all the events that year with the Baltimore riots,Charleston shooting and the two Paris attacks happening that year. Anyways 2015 in terms of music was seen by people as a great year for music.

I guess because it was the last year before the 2016 election which makes it seem a little nostalgic to some people, 2015 was an ok year for me.

The nostalgia for that year is starting to hit me only 3 years later. The most eventful year of my life, there was never a dull moment!

I went to Orlando in the early fall. Toronto hosted PanAm in the summer which was really cool too. I had a huge hipster phase in the summer of 2015 I looked so cringe haha. My hair was all over the place ;D

Also I lost my V card that year  :-X That story was so bittersweet to me which was preventing 2015 from being nostalgic, but I'm starting to look back on it fondly. It was that foolish youthful love ;D

I actually agree with unicornic. When it comes to pop culture in the 2010’s, a lot of people seem to have a strong liking for 2010, 2011, and 2013. I would assume because 2010 still had strong late 2000’s influences despite the year being firmly early 2010’s. 2011 was the quintessential early 2010’s year and I personally thought 2011 was the best year for music in the 2010’s so far. 2013 felt like an incomplete mid-2010’s year because while many mid-2010’s influences started, it was still the last year that had any early 2010’s influences in it.

I hardly see a lot of people loving 2015 the way they do with 2013, 2011 and especially 2010.

2015 was hell in my personal life.  I did like the pop culture that year though. I liked the music that year pretty well, moreso than 2014 or 2016.  It also seemed to be the peak of Obama-era liberalism and was the last year before we saw the current conservative backlash really arrive. To be honest, it was probably 2015 that sparked much of the political environment we are experiencing today.  There is a saying that you can only stretch a rubber band so far and I think we may have seen too much social progress too quickly.  Middle America just couldn't handle stuff like same-sex marriage and Bruce Jenner becoming Caitlyn Jenner.  I really wish I would have been able to experience events such as the SCOTUS same-sex marriage decision under different circumstances.

I would say this song sums up the culture of 2015 pretty well.

I'm not sure why people are starting to love 2013, I guess the fuzzy memories are taking over ???? I remember like crystal clear the year was unnormally hated back then, much more so than 2011-2012 for some reason. I'm not a fan of it personally, pop culture was veering in a dull way that year with some obnoxious moments (Harlem Shake). The most memorable moment of the year was this:

imo 2015-2016 were a massive improvement over 2013-2014.

YouTube comment sections don't mean sh*t. Excuse my French.

Of course, people who have nostalgia for the year 2015 will watch and comment on a video called "Remember 2015". That doesn't prove that it's the most liked year of the 2010s.

It was when popular music on the radio started to sound tacky to me so no, I'd rather forget 2015-2018 musically.
Looking back 2010-2013 had great music and I'd put early 2014 there too. It started to change in the middle of 2014.

I was 25 in 2013, not 5 or 10 and still it is one of the best years of my life, only comparable to 1992-1995, 1997 and 2003. There's something about years ending in 3, so far all of them have been great. 2003 and 2013 were both surrounded by not so pleasant years. :o In both of them I came out of my depression.

2015 was alright, but for me, it and 2014 were so similar that I mix up memories of those two years all the time.  :-[ But, I think that 2016 was a major improvement over 2015 in terms of my personal life but a huge step down in music. (Work From Home vs. Uptown Funk). 2015's Watch Me by Silento may even be growing on me...  :o

The early 2010s are well-beloved because duh it's the early part of the decade so it has more chances to have "good ol' memories" associated with it.

This forum's opinion on 2013 though is quite strange and uncommon which is interesting.

Why does it matter? People can express their own personal opinion however they wish. If Mr Shruggie wanted to share his own opinion about 2010-2013, he can and so can everyone else.

Also, why do you always feel the need to demand people what they can or can't do? Good moderators don't do that.

What? I didn't say that he can't share his opinion.

He said that 2010-2013 is not well liked and that he especially doesn't like 2013. His opinion is not the general opinion of 2010-2013. That's all I'm saying, 2010-2013 are the most well liked years of the 2010s, IN GENERAL. Regardless of whether or not Mr. Shruggie likes 2013 or not, that's all I was saying.

That's like me saying that because I hate the year 2004 and a few of my friends also hated 2004...that means that most people in general hated 2004. (BTW, I don't hate 2004, just an example).

2015 had the Force Awakens and I remember being so hyped for that and I did enjoy that movie. Music was great imo. I also enjoyed that Back to the Future took place that year and the Zoey 101 10 Year reboot skit was nostalgic to me. I also think some new exciting tech news came out. That was the year live streaming apps exploded (Periscope and Meerkat) and Facebook started developing their version that year. Windows 10 came out. The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge was so new and exciting and the specs were really impressive for its time. The funniest vines and memes of the decade came out in 2015 such as "DO IT" meme by Shia and the "Why The F You Lying" vine. In Canada we had a big election and same as in Alberta too but we did unfortunately have a recession that year. 2015 was a big year with so many things happening. Trump announced he would run and violence began to become more extreme that year but those are the only negatives really.

I'm going to say that 2015 was in the weird time period where it had been long enough after the crash of 2008 that people didn't feel as affected by it anymore, and the economy was starting to grow and more jobs were becoming available. Looking back, it seems like things were calmer then, especially since Trump wasn't president yet and didn't really start making waves until towards the end of the year. You could say it was like the calm before the storm.
2015 had a similar feeling to the mid 00s IMO, in other words it was long enough after a tragic event that people were starting to recover, but only to be followed a couple of years later with another changing event. In other words, things were peaceful, but not quite ideal, especially since the economy was doing better, but not necessarily great either.
Overall, it's probably the most peaceful year of the decade so far, and I predict it will hold that title even after the decade is over.

No way 2015 felt like the mid 00s lol  It seemed like it was TRYING to be like it but it was very sterile , everything felt dry and bland.
It did not have the same vibe to the mid 2000s at all , The Mid 2000s were very vibrant and exciting and anything goes vibe.
I will agree with you that the economy went back to normal  during the mid 2010s tho,

2015 had this bland gritty vibe to it, complete with all the shootings and dark tv shows on the air at the time.

It was the opposite. 2014 was a big booming year where the economy was at its peak but then the recession came in early 2015 and it was worse than the one in 2008. At least here. We still haven't fully recovered from the 2015 recession here.

June 2015 was a one-two-sucker punch where i live.  Bruce Jenner announced her transition to Caitlyn Jenner and people threw a conniption fit about that.  Then just as that hysteria was starting to die down, gay marriage was legalized, which people compared to 9/11 and lamented it being the "darkest day in American history."  Then a couple of months later, Kim Davis was jailed in Kentucky which re-ignited the entire controversy and hysteria.  Now the "ultimate nightmare" of Christians going to jail in America for being Christian had come to pass.

2015 was not a good year to be a closeted gay liberal living in the rural South.

Dark tv shows?

The overall vibe of tv shows and moviesin 2015 was dark and dystopian  , nothing else you can really say to counter that LOL

Oh no I agree. The mid 2010s in general had a LOT of dystopia/apocalypse type movies and shows with The Hunger Games, Divergent, Mad Max, The Purge, etc...

Yeah that's what I meant, it felt like it was trying to be like that.
For some reason I was really nostalgic for music from the mid 00s during the summer and autumn of that year, it just seemed to fit in with how my life felt at the time. I think I was trying to counteract the dry, bland, depressing feeling of the era with something vibrant and exciting.

But its funny it seemed when 2014 started it was TRYING so hard to be the mid 2000s vibe wise, but it just could not fit the bill. No matter how hard it had attempts at a mid 2000s/mid 90s vibe  it failed at every attempt, around late 2014-early 2015 is when the whole minimalist re imagining of stores happened, making everything look shallow, as well as the flat design trend, everything was hollow, Bland , boring,  I remember watching the Walking Dead every sunday and saying to myself why am I watching this crap I don't even like shows like this, I found Game of thrones boring and HBO way overhyped, I prefer anything on FX tbh

Summer 2015 did have somewhat of an upbeat feeling, but it FAILED even that summer was bland and boring, That Trumpet trend in music SUCKED

Yeah, and the new movie Ready Player One was dystopian but had a lighter vibe.

That's what I like so much about 2013-2015!

2015 over 2005 any day of the week lol.

This

I got the long hair slicked back white t-shirt, and when we go crashing down we come back everytime, because we never go out of style!  8) ;D

The trumpet craze was more 2014 than really 2015 with Talk Dirty, Problem, Trumpets, Shake it Off, ...  8-P

The craze died down in 2015 which was a relief. I remember Ariana Grande tried it even a second time with Focus and it flopped ;D

LOVE 2015 music :D

This remix catches the lush- and slickness of a lot of the pop songs back then so, SO damn well:

How can anyone not like the trumpets? It's so awesome one of the reasons the mid 2010s were the best time for music.

Trumpets are simply obnoxious most of the time when used in upbeat pop songs. Leave them for the Jazz instead, so they have a much bigger chance of actually being used well.

I disagree. Pop and jazz should be one and the same. If the 1920s revival happens in the 2020s I hope that's the case ;D

The trunpet trend started in 2013 with the song Safe and Sound by Capital Cities. Also people keep saying that Talk Dirty had trumpets in it, but they aren't trumpets it's actually a saxophone. But the video has trumpets in it, but the actual instrument used was the sax.

I hated 2015 for my personal life but objectively it's the last year before everything got dark, overly political and divisive. It was a fairly calm year besides trump running for president and had some funny memes like John Cena, "Why the fudge you lyin" and Shia LeBeouf "Just do it".

2015 was pretty good with pop culture overall imo, but I don't think it's the most liked. That'd be the years of 2010-2013 from most people I've seen on here.
