Wow, I don't even know what to say. I don't know what to think right now. This has been unearthed by the rapper Pusha T in his feud with Drake. I'm shocked :-\\.

The photos were taken by photographer David Leyes. He says that the pictures were Drake's idea.

This thread scared the hell out of me. I thought it was like Drake just got hospitalized or something and was in critical condition. Worse enough, I hope he's not trying to pull another Kanye or something.

If this part is true, there could be an effect where Drake starts declining in music and maybe having to withdraw from the mainstream.

Isn't Drake black himself? If so, why is it an issue?

He's biracial, which in the US according to the one drop rule means that he's "Black". However, the one drop rule was an incredibly racist rule that ironically we still use.

Does he identify himself as a black man or white man? If the former, I ask again, what is the issue? Wasn't Obama our first Black president, but like Drake, had a black father and a white mother?
I don't believe in the one drop rule, but the man is 50/50, and as such he is in the unique position of choosing what he can identify as. Also, looking at it this way, if this were 1940, he would by sight not be allowed to use "White Only" things. So there is that.

Point is, he's entitled to say what he wants. I'll give you a more current example. Drake is biracial, but let's say he was a regular person and not a celebrity. Would he be more or less likely to be unjustly shot by a cop than people of other ethnic groups? Just going by his appearance. As you yourself said, culturally we still retain the one drop rule, right? If Drake was not a celebrity, and he happened to pass by a bigoted white cop, his being biracial would not help him at all, because people who think like that, who dislike black people, don't care if the person is "biracial." People who are biracial in some ways have it worse than others I feel, especially in his case. He's not white enough to be accepted by white bigots and not black enough to be accepted by black bigots Not a position I envy.

Some of the most beautiful women I've ever seen were mixed black and white, whether they came out on the lighter side of the scale or they came out on the darker side. Mhm. If there was such a thing as a "perfect woman"...madonn.

There's a book I have called After Hours. It was adapted into the film Carlito's Way. The book is in first person, right? Protagonist is a PR named Carlito. He says in it, "God made Black and White, but it took Black and White to make brown" as he goes on to praise the beauty of mixed race women. I gotta agree with him.

That would be a bad idea. "Mulatto" derives from Spanish colonialism and has been co-opted by White supremacists who are opposed to "race mixing".

I do think that all of the women you posted range from pretty to beautiful.

However, your sentiment of biracial women = the most beautiful women...is a bit troubling because that sentiment leads to fetishization of biracial women...which is bad.

The reason this beef started is deeper than I just realize it goes back years ago with cash money and the Clipse label trouble.  Birdman and Lil Wayne had been throwing shots at him for years so it complied Pusha T to go after the whole label in his song Infrared.

With the way the US views race, this won't happen for a long time. Most mixed race families have siblings/cousins that can look a completely different race. With that being said Drake wouldn't be considered Black in a lot of parts of Latin America.

It's not that simple. Colorism is a very real issue, and it's a fact that light skin people have privileges that dark skin people don't. It's also not unheard of to hear light skin people mocking or straight up discriminate against dark skin people, and this is an example of it. You really think Drake was what racist illustrators had in mind when they wanted to depict hyper-exaggerated West African features through blackface? This is why it's not the same.

Let's put it this way: I don't think in any period of this nation's history he would've been treated the same as a white man. I'm sure the guy struggles with the issues I said - not being white enough to be white, and not being black enough to be black. I really doubt the guy is a racist. I think he was just trying to make a statement. A clumsily done, tactless statement, but not outright racism.

As far as what racist illustrators had in mind, consider the fact that Irishmen, among the fairest peoples, were depicted with the same hyper-exaggerated features you mention in illustrations. As subhuman caricatures the same as black men depicted. I think to such people, if you had anything other than fair skin, thin lips, and straight hair, you were not white and as such were fair game.

Like I said, I wouldn't want to be biracial at any point in this country's history, because it seems its at times a lose-lose proposition. Yes, there are advantages depending on how much you can 'pass' for white, but at least when you're fully white or fully black, you have a chance to be accepted fully by either group.

There was a whole book written in the 20s about this very subject, very good book - Passing by Nella Larsen. Fiction book, but a very good story about this very topic which is relevant even now.

Pusha T murdered Drake with the Story of Adidon... it's going to be iconic. Some ppl are saying that Pusha T went too far with some lines, but who gives a fück, this is such a fresh of breath air. Audiences this decade got too used to teeny pop rap diss tracks with corny lines all talking about stats.

Drake is going to take a hit with all this mess, I was certain that 2018 was going to be his year but now I'm starting to doubt that he will dominate this summer. He already did amazingly well with God's Plan and Nice for What tho...

Everybody's mixed with something else the further back you go. All the rapes, conquests, and such. Everyone is mixed to some degree. That's why the idea of racial supremacy is stupid. Not even just wrong, but stupid. I think a person can be proud of their ethnicity to a degree, like I'm proud that my ancestors going way back were Romans, Greeks, and Jews, I'm proud of those civilizations' and peoples' better accomplishments, but skin color should mean jack.

Coming from someone who is biracial, one problem is that people really don't know what I am at first sight. The majority of people might guess "Hispanic" or "Mexican" but some people might say I'm black but then they get confused because some would say I don't "talk" or "act" like a black girl. ;D ;D  And that I'm a little too "light skin" to be fully black. Then there are the people that actually get it right.  ;D ;D I even remember having self-identity issues with my skin color when I was about 7-years-old.

But as I got older, I liked being a mulatto and being kind of unique though. I don't really care if I can't pass for white and nor am I really interested in passing for white. I would say I slightly lean on the darker side, but it hasn't really made my life any worse or harder.

I'm sorry you've had to deal with that. Do they bother to even ask, in a polite way, your ethnicity or do they just assume? I'm also sorry you had to deal with self-identity issues. May I ask if your family was of any help with this, like, if you voiced these issues to them?

I also must confess something, I do not understand why people are so fascinated with certain 'black' things. Like I've read black people say people wanna touch their hair and whatnot and I don't understand that. I wouldn't wanna touch anyone's hair, white or black, because I don't know where they've been. I always make it a habit of, myself, if I'm unsure what a lady is and I wanna know, I just ask, in a polite way. I try never to assume because I wouldn't want someone to assume I was this or that by my looks.

Well, I'd say Rainbowz is a perfect username for you then. Mix of colors, pretty and unique, something people are always awed by. I'm glad you're able to own who you are. I don't know your age but I'm gonna be 28 and only in the past year did I truly become comfortable with my own self.

They usually do ask in a polite way, but there was this one time in middle school where I was ordering food in the Cafeteria and I couldn't hear what the lunch lady was saying, so she decided to speak to me in Spanish without even asking if I spoke it in the first place. So I just pointed at what I wanted to eat.

Also, I'm turning 16 in four days. :P

I'd have pointed with my middle finger, that's universal.

Early Happy Birthday. I wish I was as sure of myself at 16 as I am now. Hell, sometimes I wish I was 16 again period. Being a teen is the best thing in the world and I lost a lot of that time cause my mom was near terminally ill, my dad was hooked on pills so I had to be good and grow up fast. People hate being in HS and being that age when they're there but damn if I don't miss it.

And this is why we mulattos should have our separate category.  ;D ;D ;D We need to make the mulatto race more well known.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
And so should Mestizos, Blasians, Hapas and every other mixed ethnic group. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Coming from someone who is biracial, one problem is that people don't know what I am at first sight. The majority of people might guess "Hispanic" or "Mexican," but some people might say I'm black, but then they get confused because some would say I don't "talk" or "act" like a black girl. ;D ;D  And that I'm a little too "light skin" to be fully black. Then there are the people that get it right.  ;D ;D I even remember having self-identity issues with my skin color when I was about 7-years-old.

As I got older, I liked being a mulatto because it made me unique. I don't care if I can't pass for white and nor am I interested in becoming white. I would say I slightly lean on the darker side, but it hasn't made my life any worse or harder.
You know, I know someone who has the exact skin complexion as you, and I remember reading that she also had the same issues growing up. I even asked her years ago was she Latina and she responded no, that she is White & Black.

Drake is going to take a hit with all this mess; I was confident that 2018 was going to be his year, but now I'm starting to doubt that he will dominate this summer. He already did amazingly well with God's Plan and Nice for What tho.

How do you all think Drake will respond? If at all lol
I have a feeling that due to the controversy surrounding this issue, this could be beginning of the end for him.

The reason this beef started is more profound than I realize it goes back years ago with Cash Money Records and the Clipse label trouble.  Birdman and Lil Wayne had been throwing shots at him for years, so it complied Pusha T to go after the whole label in his song Infrared.
Oh sh!t, I wasn't aware they had a feud. I thought they all got along especially since Lil' Wayne and Drake were in multiple songs together throughout this decade.

Joy Taylor from the sports debate show "Skip and Shannon Undisputed" on FS1 is also mixed too (white and black), and unfortunately I was mistaken that she was Latina at first too.

I guess one benefit is that strangers are barely racist to me at first sight because they don't know if I'm Mexican, Hispanic, Indian, Latino or mulatto. So like if they say something racist to me about Hispanics, then I'd just be like "I'm not even Hispanic. Nice try though."  ;D ;D

He's biracial, which in the US according to the one drop rule means that he's "Black". However, the one drop rule was an incredibly racist rule that ironically we still use.

So what should be the rule?  Let's look at President O'bama. Some people "complained" that he identified as black even though he was/is biracial. My view, the call is his. Mariah Carey? Identifies as black. Halle Berry? Also identifies as black.

My thought is whether these folks identify as black or white is up to them. Given the discrimination allmofnthem likely put up with growing up, I'd be hard pressed to say what race they "should" identify with.

Now in the case of Drake (and the aforementioned as well) he is in a hard spot. In addition to the usual discrimination he gets from other races, he also faces the indignity of being branded as an "Oreo" or "not black enough" from many in the black community. Unfortunately if he simply went out and rapped 24/7 about bitches and hoes, and sipping cough syrup from a double styrofoam cup, people would stand in a line around the block. But if he does not tow the line and is seen as "not black enough" he's screwed.

I understand his blackface parody.

Exactly, and in countries like Brazil and Colombia, the half-black/white mix is a huge chunk of the population. In DR it’s easily over 50%. There are literally hundreds of millions of people who look like her, and the interesting thing is they can be considered a different race depending on what city they are.

Actually, Latino means anyone from any country in the Latin America region. Hispanic people are those who speak Spanish. Brazil is a Latin American country with Latinos but those people are not Hispanic, they are Portuguese. Spain has Hispanic people but they are NOT Latino because they are from Europe.

That too, and it's also that while we use the terms interchangeably, they don't necessarily mean the same thing. Wouldn't it be awkward calling someone Latino when he or she could be from Spain?

True, both are really vague terms since the word Latino is derived from the Latin langue, so that's most Europeans are technically Latino since most European languages came from Latin, Hispanic is derived from Spain so that's the most accurate term when describing Spanish speaking people.
The problem with Hispanics is that they all come in different colors some can be brown, some can be white or some can be black.

Wouldn't the Spanish and Portguese be Europeans, rather than Hispanic? I always thought Hispanic meant the peoples who came from Caribbean Native/South American Native ancestry, which includes all the Central and South American peoples as well as Dominicans, Cubans, Haitians, etc?

I see that here all the time! Some and even I at one point thought all Hispanics were Mexican when that was false. ;D

And some even think the typical Hispanic is brown-skinned. Not so fast! In most of Latin America (including Mexico), the people are pale-skinned.

Your first statement is right. Yes, they would be Europeans since that's where they came from; however, the term Hispanic comes from Spain considering they speak Spanish as their first language rather than English (which most Europeans speak of). For the Caribbean Native/South American, you're probably thinking of Creole and Cajun.

The definition is pretty loose and varies by who you ask. I don't believe there's an actual official consensus, but I could be wrong. I've seen Dominicans and Cubans labeled as Hispanic plenty of times, Haitians less so.

My best friend who is Dominican considers himself Hispanic, and he considers the Haitian guys we work with to be black. Also PRs I've known consider themselves either white, or Hispanic depending on their coloring and social background; and I've noticed a lot of Hispanics I've run into dislike Cubans for whatever reason. Cubans I am told have a rep of being hotheaded (it is similar to the way us Italians tend to view Sicilians). Most Hispanics I've talked to consider Spanish people and Portugese to be European/white.

Personally I've always wished I was Hispanic. I have Spanish blood mixed with the Italian but in almost every case, Hispanic people seem to be very traditionalist, very family oriented, religious (Catholic), and not that dissimilar from what I'm used to with Italians.

As to the feud - I'm on team Drake. I like his music and the other guy is just an upstart. If you're gonna blast Drake for black face, then we gotta disown Tupac for rape, Biggie, Diddy, Dre and such for being drug dealers and probable murderers. It's not like the rap scene is full of angels. Rock Stars and rap stars are generally bad people. You either overlook that or not. Elvis had a thing for underage girls but he's still the King. David Bowie also liked underage girls but he's still David effin Bowie. Axl Rose beat women and his band mates sold heroin to survive but I still love Guns N' Roses. Kurt Cobain was a big time heroin junkie but does that make his music any less great?

Heck I disliked Tupac, Biggie, Dre, and Puff already without having to take Drake into consideration.

If you are a rapist or are in the business of selling Death to your fellow man,  >:( you're on my crap list, regardless of how well you can sing, dance, or rap.

Same goes for Eric Clapton... played a mean guitar but the way he treated people around him like total feces took him off ever making my "superstar" list.

As to drug addicts like Cobain... whatever he wanted to do to himself I suppose was his own business.
