Subject: Is Gen Z nostalgia now taking over Millennial nostalgia?

Written By: Zelek3 on 12/31/18 at 6:00 am

5 years ago, Millennial nostalgia was so prominent on the internet but now, it feels like you're seeing more and more mainstream Gen Z (post-2005 kid culture) nostalgia. I guess It's about time, because there's only so many times people could relish the greatness of Courage the Cowardly Dog without it getting old, lol.

It is kinda funny for me seeing this, as I distinctly remember just a few years ago everyone believed the stuff in the pic was the "downfall era" and were all like "oh godddd can you imagine kids being nostalgic over COD and Minecraft instead of 90s things, uggghhhh". I've also seen people say "2008-2013 was the golden age of pop music" a statement which would've gotten you smashed to pieces a few years ago, lol.

Of course that's what everyone said about the era after theirs, like early millennials who hated on Pokemon and liked pogs better, or think Sega genesis/snes was peak gaming and 3d ruined gaming.

Maybe. Over the next few years I think people my age will start becoming nostalgic for their teen years instead (i.e late 00s early 10s). Those born after 2000 are only just starting to get nostalgic over their childhood.

It's a bit too early to be nostalgic about 6 years ago, isn't it?

Think of my reaction when I see comments on YouTube saying 'back in 2012 when I was 10'..  :-X

I don’t blame them. It was the last Obama year. Pop and EDM were the dominant genres.

I haven’t seen memes with early 2010’s stuff yet, but a lot with stuff from the early 2000’s, overall Spongebob, Shrek and Raimi’s Spider-Man. Surely by the mid 2020’s, late 2000’s-early 10’s nostalgia will be a thing

2007 is almost 12 years old, so I think it's okay to be nostalgic for that.

It is impossible to be nostalgic for 2012, let alone 2016.

I was born in the late 90s and I'm way more nostalgic for the late 00s than the early 00s.

I'm nostalgic for 2012, actually 2008-2013 believe it or not.

Anyone can be nostalgic for stuff from 2 years and before. Want proof? Go to any 2011-2016 song and find the comments that aren’t nostalgic for whatever year.

It's getting ridiculous! It feels like it was yesterday when I heard songs from 2011-2016 on the radio.

Like I said before It's probably time to pass the torch. First you had Gen X dominating the Internet with 70s-80s nostalgia then you had Millennials filling the Internet with 90s-mid 2000s nostalgia and now you've got Zoomers filling the Internet with late 2000s-2010s nostalgia. Circle of life.

This is so poetic. I remember as a millennial I thought we would forever be the "young generation" now it was all a decade ago. I remember certain youth channels, there was this one of this teenaged girl called "boxxybabe" who made stupid faces and sheesh into the camera.

Now she would be in her late 20s and it is another generation coming through.

I'm definitely more ok of people being nostalgic over 2017-18 than the sheeshstorm that was 2016 ;D.

The late 10s are sadly entirely defined by people trying to cop with what happened in 2016, either by being as silly as possible on the internet or listening to depressed music.

With 2012 I can understand since it's over 5 years ago, 2016 is still too recent. Of course, with more teen and kids on the internet, it makes sense that late 00s nostalgia is prevalent right now. #Infinity told me that she feels 2010 is more like the early 00s than it does with 2018 which it some ways it does since both years are considered Y years but 2010 feels way more like today technology wise it than does with the early 00s. By 2010 it was pretty normal to have high-speed internet, cell phones (even smartphones), and social media; in 2002 not so much.  I remember back in 2010 people were very cynical on YouTube about today's pop-culture and the economy funny how now people miss that year.

Early 2000s nostalgia is just starting. I see kids dressed up like my auntie was in 2000.

You know I wonder what JordanK1982's reaction would be like if he came back and saw that what had happened, with Zoomers missing the late 00s-early 10s and saying 2008-2014 was the golden age of pop. His head would probably explode, in an x-treme 1998-2002 pop punk way of course. Lol.
Isn't that the guy that constantly talked about a massive transition happening in 2004 or something like that?

I swear to god we have a member proclaiming a massive cultural transition happening for literally every year on this forum ;D.
