Subject: Will 2020 be a year of transformative change?

Written By: Slim95 on 08/22/19 at 6:36 pm

Do you guys think the year 2020 will be a huge year of change and new culture and be very transformative? Do you think it's about time? I think some new change is long overdue. I want the next culture to be very different. The year "2020" sounds futuristic and cool too, will there be Y2K 2000 turn of the millennium nostalgia around (since it will be 20 years) and similar aesthetics? I hope 2020 will be a big year of change and a new culture will appear and I think it will. What do you think?

2020 won’t be a far cry from the 2010s, but we will be a little closer to the core time period of the 21st century (the 2050s or 2060s) than we were in the 2000s.

What the heck is “transformative”? That buzzword is so overworked it isn’t even funny any more.

‘Transformative change’ means things will get a little worst from how they were in the 2010s. It happens with every age.

Transformative means big change... What's the problem? Anyways I think 2020 will be a huge year of change!

Keep your eyes on 2020 and 2021. Both of the years will be pivotal in my prediction. By 2022, we will already be firmly in the culture of the next decade so I can see the year 2022 being kinda boring or normal. But 2020 and 2021, two years to definitely keep an eye out for. The timing makes sense that change has got to be on it's way now in the next year or two.

Any time a politician or a stuffy shirt executive with no imagination announces something these days, they describe it as “transformation”.

Like WTF? Are they turning water into wine, or pulling a rabbit out of a thimble?  They use the word trying to con people into thinking that their ideas are imbued with virtue and wisdom.  ::)

I recently told an information technology vendor that if I heard the phrase “digital transformation” come out of his mouth to describe his product, he would be shown the door. And I meant it. No room for con men in my business.

Another reason why it will be changeful is there are not a lot of things slated to come out in 2020. Usually the things we predict make it less interesting. Like all the big movies and finales are in 2019, and we predicted that a mile away. But in 2020 it is pretty unpredictable we only know a couple films coming out but nothing really big and predictable so we can be surprised and a lot can change all of the sudden.

Slim95, hear me out. I am not discarding what you are saying, in which there is a significant chance of 2020 being a changeful year. I expect it to be rather transformative too, 2020 U.S Presidential election alone would be evidence of that. However, no offense, I sometimes can’t really take what you say that seriously when you’re also one of the same people that genuinely believes that we’re still in ‘core 2010s’ pop culture, or that Late 2010s culture has supposedly been the same since 2016 (which is a mid 2010s year btw). If we’re following you’re own logic, are we seriously supposed to expect 2020 to really be ‘that’ different from 2019? I don’t think that merely because we’ll be in a new decade that automatically means that culture is going to change that drastically, at least in comparison to the prior year. In retrospect, perhaps 2020 would be seen as when things started to trend more towards a culturally ‘20s’ direction, or maybe that designation would go to 2019. Who really knows. At the moment, let’s just see how the rest of 2019 plays out, before we make any wild predictions.

2016 is not a mid 2010s year, it is a late 2010s year. How could you say 2016 is in the same era as 2014? They are so different. 2016 has more similarities to 2019 than 2014. 2014 was a completely different era, part of the mid 2010s in which 2016 was not. I don't care if music changed a bit since then, 2016 was still not mid 2010s. And I don't care about "core" whatever, we are still firmly in 2010s culture now, that's for certain.

Dude, January - August 2016 is numerically mid 2010s.

But I wouldn’t call 2016 a late 2010s year. Sure, there are trends that were born in 2016 but a lot of trends from 2016 are irrelevant in 2019.

Well that's fair enough. I call 2016 late '10s because it was so different than 2014. And I think it is still connected to today. But if one wants to say there were two mid 2010s that were two distinct eras (because '14 was so different from '16) I can still agree with that.

Personally though besides some music and the prevalence of pop and EDM in 2016, I can't notice any real difference between today and 2016. But that's just me. And 2014 didn't even have EDM on the radio everywhere and neither did 2015 but more teen pop and ballads so they were very different too. Early 2014 didn't even have any trap music on the charts. Also keep in mind I am in Canada. The prime minister is still the same today as in 2016. But also Trump got elected in 2016 and Brexit happened, so did Pokemon Go, all late 2010s trends in my opinion.

It was bound to be a year of transformative change regardless. The US election's coming up, the Olympics was supposed to be this year, and the UK left the EU.

But no one in 2019 (except maybe government officials) would've thought that a global pandemic would change our lives so radically.

2020 is the year when everything got pooped on and served on a plate while the waiter farts in your face and charges you an ungodly amount.

Transformative year? More like transgressive year

It's the change we didn't want, and the change we do want (new president) we're not going to get.

This year does suck so far, but it could give us both transformative and transgressive results in society later on. I'm not sure exactly how they'll be like, but they'll happen.

I didn't think that this coronavirus would spread to The United States and kill millions of people, I thought that this year would be consisted of change but I don't know what will happen in the next 7-8 months.

The future concerns me, too. 2020, in only 5 months, felt like the year already ended with so many calamities in under such time.

This year felt really, really long to me as well it's crazy we're not even halfway done and felt like we were in this year forever. I heard that's normal when a lot of things seem to happen and you are pre-occupied with new stuff it makes the year feel like it's going slower.

What will happen in the next 7 months, will we keep talking about this since it's been on the news every day now and that would also include Trump, Cuomo and Deblasio on my TV as well.

If we have unfortunately get a second wave, then expect the news on the virus to become even longer.

I can't believe November 2019 was less than 6 months ago. Even New Years Eve feels like forever ago. Meanwhile May 2018 feels fairly recent even though it was 2 years ago.

Nah, May 2018 is starting to feel like a long time ago especially since TikTok wasn’t out in the United States yet. Now it’s the most popular video app right now.
