Subject: Were 2008 and 2009 culturally more 2000's or 2010's?

Written By: thisismelemon on 12/27/19 at 2:19 pm

For me i consider 2008 as the main transition year between the 2000's and 2010's , and i think the early 2010's culturally began in mid to late 2009. For me personally the 2010's started in September 2009 because a lot of things happened in my personal life that month that pretty much shaped the early 2010's for me.

2008 and the early part of 2009 felt like the 2000s to me. Mid to late 2009 with the Electropop boom, commonplace HDTVs and impact-font internet memes definitely set the playing field for early 2010s culture.

This. Overall I'd put 2008 with the mid-2000's, and 2009 with the early 2010's.

2010s by far. You could say early 2008 was more LATE '00s. But even early 2008 wasn't "00s" since the late '00s don't describe the '00s well. By December 2008, we were well into the early 2010s with Lady Gaga being on the radio and Obama being elected...

This. Add to the fact that Marvel Cinematic Universe started in 2008 with the first Iron Man movie and The Dark Knight coming out that summer, rock music was dying in the mainstream, physical media sales for stuff like CD’s and DVD’s were declining greatly, movie rental stores like Blockbuster and Movie Gallery were closing up their stores and so many classic stores were closing up/had closed up their stores or going bankrupt like Circuit City, Sam Goody, CompUSA, Border’s Books, etc.

2008 ALREADY felt like the beginning of a new era.
