Subject: The ONLY part of the 2010s that had good pop music was the mid 2010s

Written By: piecesof93 on 01/02/20 at 9:47 pm

I decided to listen to some pop music from 2016 and it was so good. I can't believe that it may be one of my favorite times for pop music. I loved the different sounds from that era - Tropical House, EDM (different from early 2010s EDM), and heavily Disco/Funk inspired pop. I feel that 2016 was the peak of this decades music for multiple genres. The only listenable pop music after 2016 were leftover songs from the mid 10s that still encompass that mid 10s sound.

Some of my favorites from that time.

To me, I absolutely loved Early 2010s Electropop, with acts like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, occasionally Britney Spears, Rihanna, Kesha, LMFAO, and other artists making fun party music.

I also liked Late 2013-2016 music as well. Pop Trap or Pop Rap with songs like Dark Horse, Fancy, Dont let me down, Work by Iggy, and other songs were what I liked back then. I also liked Neo-Disco songs like Uptown Funk, This Girl, 24K magic, Shut up and dance, and more.

2016 is easily one of the worst musical years, if not the worst of the last 20 years. No contest. As much as I like 2015, it did introduce us to some terrible music tropes like shoddy, watered down productions, annoying and gimmicky voice processing and extremely basic chord progressions that were dominating by 2016.

It was the year of edm fratbros and horrendous meme music. It was painful 8-P

I agree! Though I do not believe 2016 is part of mid 2010s as music had a different sound because EDM wasn't mainstream pre-2016 (besides a few songs here and there, it was mostly teen pop). 2016 was still a good and solid year for music for sure!

I also liked Neo-Disco songs

The disco funk trend was by far the best aspect of mainstream music in the 2010s for sure. The songs themselves were actually pretty good and original too it didn't feel fake at all. 2013 was full of this sound. Which is probably why I think 2013 was the best year of the decade for music, especially since it was a fresh sound after the horrid autotuned electro-pop.

I really liked 2015 as well. Lean On, Hello, 679, Can't Feel My Face, and See You Again are some of my favorites from that year.

Those were some of my least favourites. But there were some really good catchy hits that year.

I thought it was you that had posted that ("Smac12" looks like "Slim95"), and I was thinking to myself "wow, I never would have guessed he'd like songs like that" ;D

Lol yup I do not like those songs. Lean On is literally annoying with that horrible repetitive noise in the chorus. See You Again was boring with a capital B. Can't Feel My Face was pretty boring too. 679 is just plain garbage. Hello I didn't mind too much for what it it is but it was still pretty boring.

The best songs from 2015 were the catchy guilty pleasure catchy pop hits by Taylor Swift and some others. Then there was "Locked Away", "Shut up and Dance", Uptown Funk (2014 but popular in 2015), and some other good jams.

2015 was the last year were you had some upbeat songs. In 2016 everything slowed down in bpm and ever since then songs were a lot less upbeat and slower and songs that were considered "upbeat" really weren't when you consider the actual bpm in the song. It was also the last year before the EDM takeover and when teen pop was still dominating. This is always why I say the late 2010s started late 2015 / 2016. The music and plus Trump showing up in the political scene too. Plus Trudeau getting elected. 2015 - 2016 was a very changeful time. I don't know why so few people see that and think the late 2010s didn't start in 2016 when they did culturally speaking and numerically speaking in late 2016.

Uptown Funk, Shake It Off, and Shut Up and Dance are some of my favourite songs of the decade. :D (I don't listen to the radio though so I associate them more with 2014)

I didn't like Shake it Off but I thought "Style" and "Blank Space" were really catchy.

Shake it Off actually was popular on the radio in late 2014, not 2015 anyway. Because it came out in September of 2014 and immediately they played it because Taylor Swift is very famous.

And you guys don't use this against me in the future. I'm an Eminem fan not a Taylor Swift fan.  ;D I just think some of her songs from 2015 were dang catchy.  ;D

I really liked the breathy, tropical sound of 2015-2016, so much so that I have a little bit of nostalgia for that period. Not a lot, but some.  :P

These were some of my favorites.

I feel the same way. Basically how I feel about the music: Early 2010's > Mid 2010's > Late 2010's (although 2018 stood out for having good music).

I think 2019 has it beat.

"Shut Up and Dance" and "Uptown Funk" are also some of my favorites. I also loved the "Cheerleader" and "I Took A Pill in Ibiza" remixes.

Oh yeah I forgot about Cheerleader, I like that song too. The pill in ibiza song remix is from 2016 though.

That's weird. I could've sworn that I heard the Ibiza remix around late 2015.

The original song was released in 2015. But the remix came out in February of 2016. Maybe I am wrong though. Either way, the remix got popular in 2016.

I agree. Especially underground artists at the time like SZA. I really loved her and Chance the rappers “Child’s Play” song. At the time I was using pandora (the mom app) and discovered her through their my senior year of high school in 2014. Anaconda by Nicki Minaj was huge. I was over it lol.
