Subject: What was the look of 2010-2012 ?

Written By: CarCar on 02/07/20 at 11:04 am

What were people wearing during 2010-2012, And by that I mean what fashion trends were popular during this time period. I feel like it was just an extension of the Late 2000s until 2013 when undercuts and man buns started becoming more popular due to Hipsters and Macklemore

Please post pictures aswell

This video gives you a good idea. This is from exactly 8 years ago today (February 7th, 2012).

It's interesting that many people in the crowd still used handheld digital cameras. 2012 was a transition year for smartphone usage.

I still have all my clothes from 2009-2012, if anyone wants to know how I used to dress back then. ;D

Yeah I still used a digital camera in 2012. Still have it actually.

I also have a few items of clothing from 2012. Haven’t really changed much body-wise since 17 except for being a bit more muscular. I only wear them around the house though because my sense of style has changed (and improved) a lot since then.

Neon colors were huge, as were generally bright, colorful clothes. Everybody wore plaid, especially brightly colored. A young woman during the time might be wearing a bright plaid button-down shirt, maybe with a big belt around her waist, and tight, light blue jeans. She would probably wear her hair parted to the side. I also remember off-the-shoulder tops were trendy, particularly neon-colored, of course.

Guys might have the infamous Bieber haircut while wearing a Hollister or Abercrombie shirt (those brands were very popular) and plaid shorts. I remember there being a brief revival of late '80s, early '90s hip-hop fashion that included high-top fades and sleeveless denim vests. Guys were starting to wear their clothes tighter, too, while girls were phasing in their skinny jeans and leggings.

Basically, think bright neon colors, plaid, and Bieber haircuts and you're in the ballpark.

This picture of a young woman was taken in 2011 at the Pitchfork Music Festival, and she was wearing indie-hipster apparel with braided hair, a white tank top, booty shorts, and a scarf.

This was pretty much my later years high school experience, thanks for pointing our the late 80s, early 90s revival! I don't see many people around here mention it so I was going to speak on it before I saw your comment. It's one of my favorite parts of the early 2010s. Boys rocked high top fades and I had my own sets of parachute/MC hammer pants.

Another 90s reminiscent style that I had to have at the time was long sleeves under short sleeves

but with neon colors  :D

Vans and chucks started to replace airforces (something I was not happy about. I was the airforce queen). Also high waisted pants started to make a comeback at this time and are still going strong. In this era though, they looked more like this

and commonly came in demin fabric. Leather pants popular in the 90s and early 2000s made a comeback as well. Raybans.

And people say the 2000s ended in 2009 lol, yep digital cameras were still used around that time and in the earlier 2010s like 2010-2011 blueberries, and flip phones with internet access were pretty used in the earlier part of the decade and didn’t go out of style until 2013ish

The 2000s sort of declined rapidly since mid-late 2009 and the 2000s was completely dead by fall 2013.

I think it’s always like that with decades the core is always the 3rd to 6th year while the late years(7th to 9th) bring what is to come in the next decade while the early part(0 to 2nd year) of the first decade slowly starts deleting and replacing stuff from the previous decade and the new stuff of the later part of the previous decade such as iPhones got more popular with time in the early 2010s albeit slowly because the flip phones with keyboards didn’t go out of fashion yet until 2012 but it took society a while to switch completely over to that

Albeit the old IPhones with the old screen style are more reminiscent of something from the late 2000s then now

I don't remember seeing anyone with flip phones in the early 2010s. The only old phones I saw in that period are Blackberries and slider phones in my school.

Oh yeah those are the phones I meant those brick phones that slid and opened a keyboard

I don't really pay attention to fashion but I do distinctly remember 3D glasses being popular. My high school wore school uniforms (and it was a public school) so I never'd worried about looking trendy.  I still have some shirts I wore 10+ plus years ago but they're classic collar shirts.

I miss those times when guys used to actually wear their hair long and girls had the cute emo-lite fashion.

You mean scene kids ? They’re was this one girl in my middle school in 2012 who had very bright red hair and dressed like a member of black veil birdies and had a bunch of Emo and scene bands on her Facebook page as decorations

Guys can still wear their hair long. It's not like there is a ban or taboo against guys with long hair. As for emo girls, I don't think they'll come back but rather as a throwback look.

Yeah there were lots of 3D movies coming out at the time and I used to steal  a whole bunch of 3D glasses out of the recycle bins at the movies lol.

Yeah I miss that. I'm only seeing it so far on Tumblr.

What I italicized.

Brands like Hollister, Ambercombie and Areopostale were popular. Skinny jeans and converse were popular. Fashion was dead boring during this time...

People were wearing very bright and tight clothing that's all I can remember. It's not as if the fashion changed that much, but it was more common and in back then.

Many men still have long hair and it isn't taboo now either.

I do remember off-the-shoulder shirts were very popular for girls back in 2010-2012:
