Subject: Fashion Trends unique to the 2010s?

Written By: GameXcaper on 02/13/20 at 12:36 pm

Post anything here that is unique to the 2010s that hasn't been done before (Decade or era-defining things, something that people know about or will generally agree became popular during this time, nothing individual or niche)

I'll start: Hipster beard and mustache, disconnected or fade beard, clean-cut beard, a beard with an undercut/manbun/fade, the top Knot. Ombres/Balayage. Septum piercings. The Big booty trend. Instagram makeup/look and the thick perfectly drawn on eyebrows and puffy fish lips. Modern and minimalistic jewelry. Techwear. Suede or Nubuk dress shoes. Chelsea boots.

I don't know about the Long slim T-shirts, but the black leggings have been done before in the 90s, although nowhere near as mainstream.

It was the decade of the skinny jean. It was around in the 2000s and before but it was 2009-2011 when it rose to stardom and became the default style of jeans.

Ripped jeans became mainstream over the last few years. Sure, some people wore them in the '80s and '90s, but I doubt you would see middle-age suburban moms wear them back then, unlike today.  ::)

Were floral shirts on men a thing before the 2010s? I felt so scandalized when I first saw. I think it's a 2010s thing.

Yeah, but were those ever trendy? Or are they like cargo shorts where you only wear them after you've given up on life? ;D

Jim Carrey is handsome, it’s just easy to overlook because he’s such a goofball.

Dying your hair silver/grey and other colours. Well, I remember dying hair blue/orange/pink from the 2000s but it feels like the 2010s took it to the next level. I think it's called seapunk.

Speaking of Chelsea boots (though those were popualrized in the 1960s, I know of the 2010s version you speak of), this Canada Goose/giant parka trend really took off in the 2010s.

Colorful patterned leggings and oversized shirts.

Long shirts, oversized shirts are from the 1990s/2000s. I'm sure the wild leggings are from the '80s.

Though that reminds me that skinny/"professional" sweatpants are unique to the 2010s.

I remember one guy in my class wearing them in 2008/2009. He got made fun of though, people just didn't know he was ahead of his time.

Sorry, the 80s already had skinny jeans. Especially the early to mid 80s.

Hawaiian shirts were big in the late 90s early 2000s, as well as the 80s, 50s and even 30s. In fact, they have always been popular.
