Subject: 2017 songs that are showing it’s age.

Written By: mc98 on 03/10/20 at 10:51 am

2017 was 3 years ago and I think it's safe to say that some of the songs from that year sound a little bit dated, especially the first half:

Besides "Something Just Like This", I think "I'm The One" can be played this year, 2019 or even 2018, and it'd still sound relevant.

I don't know if I'm The One can be a hit in 2020, the production sounds kinda dated to me. Here's more that I can think of:

Alright, well, maybe not 2020, considering that we're still pretty early in the year, but it would still sound relevant to me if it was released in '18 or '19.

I wouldn't say any of these sound dated, tbh.

There are no dated songs from 2017. 2017 was only 3 years ago and cannot possibly considered dated. Wait at least another 2 years and then and only then it may start to sound dated. The last year that resembles any datedness at all is 2015.

Changed the title, so here are more songs:

Even though this one was released in 2016, it did peak in early 2017:

Ok maybe not, but you gotta admit these types of songs won't pass today.

Imo they would tbh. All of those songs sound like whats out today. It sounds like the same era tbh. Some of the songs you gave came out in 2016 as well.

Really? A lot of the songs I listed are EDM/Tropical House songs that are no longer relevant on the charts. Even that iSpy song sounds too corny to be a hit today. Just compare the new Dua Lipa song “Don’t Start Now” to “New Rules”. They both have noticeable differences if you ask me. I think that 2020 will be a transitional year for music so far. However, trap songs of 2017 don’t feel dated at all.

Well of course, people aren’t making tropical house songs right now as those are usually summer hits, edm will always be a thing and although 2019 didn’t see much edm reach mainstream success I do believe that if certain edm songs from 2016 were released in 2019 or 2020 they would do well
on the charts. I believe if ispy was released in 2020 instead of 2016 it would still reach mainstream success as that is the sound hip hop and rap music is still in right now.

The difference between 2007 and 2010 were much greater than 2017 and 2020 so far but still 2017 songs from the first half is starting to sound different. There are NO tropical house hits at this time. It’s over. Even Tropical House was not popular in the summer of 2019. Right now, it’s all about retro throwbacks such as Blinding Lights, Don’t Start Now, Say So, and Adore You.

I feel like "Bad and Boujee" is slowly starting to show its age.

I still imagine it being on top of the charts today. It's a relic of the 2016-present trap rap era.

I'm listening to a bunch of 2017 songs and I would say a lot of them sound different from today's music.

To be honest this sounded dated as soon it came out. I still can't believe Taylor released this monstrosity while she was maturing as an artist 8-P

Yeah, that Taylor Swift song sounds already dated at release. The more I think about it, Bad and Boujee is starting to show it's age. The classic Metro Boomin production and heavy triplet flows are not very prominent in today's rap.

Of course, and so do songs from 2018 and 2019. That's because music only started to change this year. But it's still not "dated". That word should only be reserved for something that's at least 5 years ago and even then it's a stretch.

If anything, "Yummy" by Justin Bieber already sounds dated to me for being so horrid.  ;D
