Subject: Why I Think The Way I Do Regarding Eras Music-Wise

Written By: Slim95 on 04/26/20 at 11:24 pm

Here is my opinion on the division of eras in this decade music-wise as these were the top charting songs on the radio:

Early 2010s - Late 2008 - Early 2013
Electro-Pop

Lady Gaga - Just Dance
Lady Gaga - Poker Face
I Gotta Feeling - Black Eyed Peas
Kesha - Tik Tok
Party Rock Anthem - LMFAO
Starships - Nikki Minaj
Scream N' Shout - Britney Spears and Will I Am

Mid 2010s - Late 2013 - Late 2015
Teen Pop and Trap

23 - Mike WiLL Made-It Featuring Miley Cyrus, Wiz Khalifa & Juicy J
Problem - Ariana Grande
Fancy - Iggy Azaelia
Bad Blood - Taylor Swift
Blank Space - Taylor Swift
Trap Queen - Fetty Wap
Worth It - Fifth Harmony

Late 2010s - Mid 2019
EDM and Trap

Closer - The Chainsmokers
Don't Let Me Down - The Chainsmokers
Gold - Kiiara
Something Just Like This - The Chainsmokers
Bodak Yellow - Cardi B
I Like It - Cardi B
Happier - Marshmello

Now we're in the Early 2020s period that started Late 2019 musically which is Indie-Pop and Throwback Funk

I left one part out which was Mid 2013 and I thought that part was very unique and couldn't fit with either one as music had mostly Disco songs and it felt unique (Examples of these include Blurred Lines, Get Lucky, Treasure, and Suit and Tie). But if I had to choose I would place mid 2013 with the Mid 2010s.

On another note, my favourite era of music on this list of mine is the mid 2010s. My least favourite era of music on this list would be the early 2010s by far. So far, my second favourite era of music is the early 2020s and it may very well replace the mid 2010s era as my favourite era of music if it continues like this. It seems like it will continue like this and this is the direction music is headed now. All of the major stars like The Weeknd, SZA, and Dua Lipa are hopping on the Throwback Funk train and of course we have a lot of indie-pop popular like Billie Eilish and that song by Post Malone.

This is pretty much how I seen the 10’s too. I think this is pretty accurate.

While I'll personally put EDM in the mid-2010s category, I mostly agree with you on the music eras.

mc98's post completely nailed it.

Any other breaking down would be inaccurate ;D
