Subject: The difference between the music of 2008 and 2010 is significant.

Written By: mc98 on 05/03/20 at 12:36 pm

It's amazing how a difference between 2 years can make. If you're not fond of these years, you probably will dismiss it as the same but if you do have a soft spot, you'll notice how significant these differences are between 2008 and 2010. A bigger difference than 2018 and 2020 for sure.

But it's clearly not, as the tens digit in 2008 is 0, not 1. ::)

2008 had a variety of different genres, and while 2010 had a variety as well, I noticed more of an emphasis of club music that year, especially with electropop being huge.

This just continues to prove that the 2010s started on time.

You can thank 2009's electro/dance-pop music for that.  :)

I'm glad im not the only one who thinks this when everyone else seems to agree late 00s and early 10s are the same musically(Heck, even some think music hasn't changed at all since 2008).

Most songs in 2008 sounded like they were made in 2006 or 2007. And whilst modern electropop started this year, it sounded noticeably different than early 10s electropop. It had more of a pop rock influence and also other things I can't consciously put my finger on.

The dance pop from 2008-2014 was all connected, but it had very distinct phases

It's not that late '00s and early '10s are the same, it's just that late 2008 was NOT late '00s anymore. Lady Gaga was on the scene. Obama was elected. The economy collapsed. It was the start of a new decade. Late 2008 is when the early 2010s began. I agree early 2008 is late '00s though.

What period is the late 00s then. 06-08? And when does the Mid 10s start?

2006 to early 2008, correct. The mid '10s started in 2014.

I thought the late 00's (or rather mid-to-late 00's) started in late 2005. We may not have had Justin Timberlake yet or Blu-ray, but something about that time felt disconnected and different from 2004 or even early 05. That's when the quality of music went downhill like with songs like "Laffy Taffy". Many of the popular TV shows of that era premiered in 2005 like The Office and HIMYM. Also the Xbox 360 was released.

I thought of 9/11/2001 to 2004/early 05 was one era, even though there were slight variations within like with every year. This was the core of the 2000's. The late 00's was more of a transitional period when it wasn't the core 00's anymore but not yet the defined Lady Gaga era. It was a hybrid of hip-hop and dance/electro.
