Subject: Songs on the CUSP of core/late 2000s and early 2010s

Written By: mc98 on 06/19/20 at 10:07 am

What are some songs that hinted the early 2010s sound but also very primitive at the same time. Remember, the Timbaland synth stuff from 2006-2008 does not count since they sound unquestionably 2000s.

This song right here is like a perfect cusp between the core 2000s and early 2010s. It has that stabbing synth sound the early 2010s are known for but the production in the verse sound so minimal. Same thing with Poker Face.

This was a game-changer for Akon since he was known for making mostly urban music throughout 2004-2007. He had a song called Dangerous which leans heavily hip hop but this song was a big transition from the urban heavy to the synth-heavy dance-pop sound.

This song has bouncy 8-bit synths and southern hip hop elements

This has both heavy party electropop elements and pop rock elements.

A pop rock song with dance-pop synths. It's a proto-"Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)", and by that, I mean they're pretty much the same and they're also generic.  ;D

It has house synths but the rapping style is so 2000s.

This song contains post-grunge elements but there are also elements such as the Millennial whoop in the chorus.

Pussycat Dolls - When I Grow Up (2008), while its technically electropop, it sounds primitive as the synths were very linear as opposed to the higher volume variety in the quintessential electropop songs. And of course, its the pussycat dolls, very 2000s!  ;)

These two songs are short-lived trends which electropop and R&B are fused together.

This song is like the perfect bridge between the 80s electro-influenced songs of the mid-late 00s and early 10s style electropop

Here are some I can think of...

"Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga.

"Naturally" by Selena Gomez.

"Telephone" by Lady Gaga featuring Beyonce. (This one's from the same album as "Bad Romance", recorded in '09, but didn't become a hit until later in '10.)

As for the second song, I believe that it...somehow manages to be on the cusp of mid '90s and early '10s?  ;D Because it has the kind of squished drums one heard a lot in '90s Eurodance songs.

90's and 10's? That's kindof a stretch. I mean, one of them is two calendar decades after the other.

Then again, LOTS of songs out there have characteristics of styles that were prevalent in previous decades.

Yeah, it's pretty crazy how time flies. Almost everything from 2010 still feels pretty recent to me.  :P
