Subject: Least transitional year of the 2010s?

Written By: NightmareFarm on 10/11/21 at 2:55 pm

I find it hard choosing between 2010, 2014 and 2019. If I was forced to choose, I'd say 2010 since barely anything changed from the latter third of 2009. The only thing that comes to mind without brainstorming is Windows 7 and Bruno Mars. 2014 had ISIS and gamergate at least with nothing else new and 2019 saw the conclusion of GOT, Star Wars and Avengers Endgame as well as TikTok emerging. The rest are fairly transformative, especially 2013, 2015 and 2016.

It was a tough one but I actually voted for 2011. It was the first one that came to mind. It basically was a continuation of the EDM/dubstep era and not a whole lot changed from 2010 other than Arab Spring and OWS. I can see the case for 2010. 2014 was transitional in its own way though not as much as 2013. The entire 2013-2016 was very transitional in which even each later half felt different from the early half, even more so the year before. I'd also give a mention to 2018, which was a continuation from late 2017 with trap/mumble rap and Latin pop. It was less transitional than 2019 imo.

2011 was when smartphones truly broke into the mainstream which is why I don't consider that one of the least transitional years. Plus the 3DS released and occupy wall street and arab spring happened.

2014 didn't feel transitional at all imo, it merely laid the seeds for the 2016 transition with gamergate and ISIS.

2018 wasn't that transitional but it had some notable changes such as the proliferation of mumble/trap rap and battle royale games breaking the mainstream with fortnite and PUGB.

2010. The start vs end of the year are identical
