Yeah basically. I sense this neo-emo movement of sorts. Billie Eilish's gloomy sad and depressing songs and some of the pop-rockish songs like Circles and Adore You. The culture is really dystopian right now, that's the best way to describe the early 2020s culture so far. The coronavirus isn't helping with that. Either way this era we are in right now will be remembered as dystopian and dark, very gloomy and depressing. You can hear it in the songs too. Of course trap is still around but I think it past its peak in 2019. I just hope trap gets forgotten about quick haha.

There are also retro throwback songs like Blinding Lights and Don't Start Now but we don't know for certain if this is gonna continue.

Reebok seems to be making a huge comeback in this time.

People are also moving on to 2000s nostalgia in this day and age.

Hopefully this era will be seen as dystopian, assuming the future isn’t worse :-\\

Pay cable TV will definitely continue to decline and possibly die out in the early 2020s. It'll migrate more to affordable streaming platforms like the aforementioned Sling TV and YouTube TV.

Supreme clothing was more of a 2013 to mid 2010s thing, but it is still relevant amongst some Millennials.

Pretty sure Popeye’s won that war last year into this year.

Everything surrounding TikTok in general.

We’re leaving 2019 in the past slowly, but surely.

Also, the Icon brand is in.

The whole brand logo clothing of Supreme, Gucci, Levi's, Guess that peaked mid-2017 to mid-2019 seems to be on its way out. It was very anti-2010s.

Sam Smith is definitely a mid 2010s artist and will be looked back on as such. He past his peak. The 2010s was his decade not the '20s.

Yeah, and I think most people will remember them (Sam's pronoun) for songs like "Latch", "Stay With Me" and "I'm Not the Only One". They also had hits like "Dancing With a Stranger" and "How Do You Sleep?", but the songs probably won't be remembered as fondly.

A new CW drama that takes place in the Archie Comics universe about the murder of Jason Blossom who had a twin sister who was popular and a troublemaker.

The hype comes from the couples on the show. Fans of the show are rooting for Jughead (Cole Sprouse) to stay with Betty (Lili Reinhard) and not chase after Archie (KJ Apa) like Betty does in the comic book.

In that case, don't forget people calling other people "edgy" when they apparently have no idea what it means. They'll say it to any person who appears troubled or cynical, even if they show no sign of being on-edge.

Still, we are living in the 2020s. You should have expected to see mid to late 2010s carryovers in the very early 2020s because the 2010s were all about getting to the 2020s.

They're considered one of the "good" artists but like with Adele, Sam Smith's music sounds annoying to me. Seemingly random set of notes. Heck, the "trashy" music by Ed Sheeran and to an extent, Ariana Grande, sounds better to me, well, one of each of their songs.

Yeah, it seemed so recent when we (or at least some of us) were on here back in 2005. Meanwhile in the future we'll probably arguing if the shift from late 2010's to early 2020's happened in 2020 or 2021.

Panic buying is now simply a trend, not a need. People are doing it because they think they "should" or because they are being sheeplike. After three weeks of this frenzy buying they already have everything they need. If they keep buying toilet paper they don't need they will have themselves a lifelong supply. I liken it to the fools who stand in long lines overnight in freezing temperatures for so-called "Black Friday" deals on the day after Thanksgiving. People are hypnotized (or browbeaten) by the media into thinking they "should" be doing this or else they will be missing out on something, and some people do it just for the "sport" of it.

It seems to be just an American thing. I'm not aware of other countries having this issue, maybe the UK as I think I remember one of my Facebook friends there posting about it. But following trends like sheep is the American way of life, pretty much in all 50 states (except maybe Hawaii). Along with the panic buying is the attitude of rudeness, inconsiderate, self-centeredness, entitlement, and even violence for people to get what they want.

Another thing that is related to this here in the US is that there always has to be a holiday going on now. Not only have Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas been blurred into one big season (a prime example of this is the ghastly Hallmark channel which starts running ads for their holiday programming in early September featuring jack-o-lanterns wearing Santa Claus hats) but now Valentine's Day (a fake holiday at best) has been sucked into it. About two weeks before Christmas all the Christmas merchandise in stores starts being strategically withdrawn into a flung together bargain bin to make way for Valentine's Day merchandise. So when Christmas actually does arrive it's anti-climactic. It seems to have passed before it got here. And before Valentine's Day even arrives items start appearing for St. Patrick's Day (another fake-ish holiday which has become kind of a surrogate New Year's Eve excuse to get drunk, rather than the more religious holiday it has traditionally been in Ireland) and Easter. And then on to the Fourth of July. There's never a time when there is NOT a holiday display and merchandise going on.  It's overkill.

Slay is from the early-mid 2010s. I think I can find posts of me saying it on here in 2016 lol. And Beyoncé's song Formation from the beginning of 2016 uses it too. But she didn't popularize it, it was there before that.

Edit: actually I think slay predates the Internet. It's hard to tell with gay slang sometimes.
