Subject: 2020 is the new 2008 (transformative year)

Written By: Slim95 on 03/30/20 at 2:14 am

I think people will look back at 2020 being a major transformative year like how people look back on 2008 today. It's not just about the corona virus but you can also see music is shifting and everything is changing this year. The 2020s started almost right on time I think. 2020 is a major transitional year and we've seen so much happen just 3 months in already it felt like this year was much longer than just 3 months. It's a big shift this year.

Bad or good it is still transitional. I never intend to say "transitional" means "positive" so I don't know why people assume that, just stating the facts.

2020 was supposed to be the new 2004. I hate it when a year doesn't play out to be exactly like the year that was 16 years before it. It's like the pattern has been broken. The Summer Olympics got postponed until next year, and just when the new Batman movie was scheduled to be released exactly 16 years after Batman Begins in 2005, now that's in jeopardy of being delayed.

I didn't assume that, I was just saying 2020 lowkey sucks lol. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Do you think 2019 was the new 2007? And 2018 was the new 2006? Or does it just apply to 2020 being the new 2008?

I was thinking more like 2019 was the new 2003, and 2018 was the new 2002. Especially 2016 was was the new 2000, only a darker and suckier version of it, but with the elections in which the GOP had a surprising and controversial victory.

If Biden wins this year will be more like 2008 than 2004. But if Trump gets reelected than it will be more like 2004, and probably the only thing it has in common with that year, because I doubt Usher's sequel to Confessions will drop this year.

I guess you could also say 2020 is the new 2001, since both of those years have a major historical event that changed the world.

2018 was the new 2003 while 2019 was the new 2004.

I agree with the OP on 2020 being the new 2008. It will be interesting to see what direction pop culture goes in after the pandemic.

A SARS pandemic was raging back in 2004 too, so you were actually quite right in that way ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (this time it is just way worse because the virus is less deadly and spreads out much easier than the 2000s one).

Ok, this sounds too much like Decadeology. I'm locking it. Sorry, folks.
