Subject: Covid-19 songs, by celebrities, those in lockdown, parodies, etc

Written By: Philip Eno on 04/12/20 at 2:52 am

It seemed to all start with Neil Diamond with his 'washing hands' "Sweet Caroline" and as the days and months go on, more are adding to the cause, not just celebrities, but ordinary members of the public in lockdown.

Starting with Neil Diamond and his "Sweet Caroline", btw, who is that at the end of the video?

A family’s rendition of ‘One Day More’ from "Les Miserables" is hilarious but to the point.

This is a parody of Nirvana's "Stay Away", where Urian Hackney tells people to stay inside.  ;D

Haha. But seriously I wonder who he would do it about? Or just the world this time?

The last time I heard Elton John had retired from live concerts, so at home (lockdown) he may be working on something right now?

Recently, Elton John has been hosting online concerts for Covid-19.

I am hopeless at producing videos, or to be creative in that way, but my only contribution towards a parody on this current situation, was in a reply in another topic on discussing how can we get our haircut when the barbers are closed, set to "Let It Go" from Frozen.

"Let it grow, let it grow
Can't hold it back anymore
Let it grow, let it grow
Turn away and grow some more
I don't care what they're going to say
Let the storm rage on
The comb never bothered me anyway"

Joan Baez posted a nice one. By her own admission she can't ht the dizzying high notes she was once able to, but this is heartfelt nonetheless.

Somebody should do the same with The Police “Don’t Stand So Close To Me”

I have seen that before (a few times) and I LOVE it. I think out of all the parodies that I have seen so far, this one is my favorite.

I love it, and it's a great rendition of what most of us are facing now.

On Easter Sunday (April 12, 2020), by invitation of the City and of the Duomo cathedral of Milan, Italian global music icon Andrea Bocelli gave a solo performance representing a message of love, healing and hope to Italy and the world.

More than 150 singers have got together virtually to record a song to raise money for NHS staff. Members of the Buskerteers Choir, made up of groups from across Essex, individually recorded their part of "Stand By Me" on their phones at home, which then formed an online video.

Still waiting for it.

And it seems to me
You lived your life
Like a virus in the wind
Never knowing who had TP
When the runs came in

And I would have liked to known you
But I was quarantined
Your Clorox wipes ran out long before
The virus ever did...

I took part in a virtual choir. We each recorded ourselves singing We’ll Meet Again and then the individual videos have been combined into one song.

Here is a cover of Lean on me by Canadian supergroup called ArtistsCAN.  It is a tribute to the late Bill Withers with proceeds to support the Canadian Red Cross to fight COVID-19.  On May 9, it peaked at #13 in Canada and features some singers you know (such as Justin Bieber, Avril Lavigne, Bryan Adams, Geddy Lee and Sarah McLachlan), and many you may not know if you live outside of Canada.
