What VE Day looked like at Trafalgar Square, London, 75 years ago compared to today

The UK is to mark the 75th anniversary of VE (Victory in Europe) Day, with the Royal Family leading tributes as the country remains in lockdown due to the coronavirus. The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall will lead a two-minute silence at 11:00 BST to honour servicemen and women during World War Two, and the Queen will address the nation later. The PM thanked the VE Day generation, saying "our gratitude will be eternal". Events are taking place all day, but public gatherings have been cancelled. Victory in Europe Day marks the day in 1945 when then-prime minister Sir Winston Churchill announced that the war in Europe had come to an end, after Nazi Germany unconditionally surrendered.

In the last few moments, the RAF's Red Arrows have flown over central London to mark VE Day. Today marks the 75th anniversary of the end of World War Two in Europe - where millions of people are currently living under lockdown.

I heard them, but could not see them, therefore no photos for me.

Tonight, Queen Elizabeth II's pre-recorded address will be broadcast on BBC One at the exact moment her father, King George VI, gave a radio address 75 years ago. It will be her second televised message during the coronavirus outbreak after a rare speech to the nation last month

We raised a glass in a toast of thanks at 3 pm.

I also put some bunting on our fence.

I paid attention to the two minute silence, just heard the Victory In Europe Speech by Winston Churchill, will watch the Queen's Speech and listen out for the sing-a-long afterwards, I have given up on singing.

I took part in a virtual choir. We each recorded ourselves singing We’ll Meet Again and then the individual videos have been combined into one song.

I will transfer this to Covid-19 songs, by celebrities, those in lockdown, parodies, etc

As a person from a once-Allied country (U.S.), I say congrats to the UK for being part of the force and keeping the world safe! :D
