Subject: 2020 - The mix of the worst of years past

Written By: batfan2005 on 11/04/20 at 3:16 pm

I mentioned this another thread, but I figured I start one about this particular topic. It seems like 2020 is like mix of the worst of so many years in the past. You have the pandemic of 1918 and 2009, the economic collapse of 1929 and 2008, the hurricane season of 2005, the Middle East tensions of 2003, the terrorist attacks of 2015 in Europe (France again and this time Austria), the police brutality/racial injustice of 2014, the Trump campaign and celebrity deaths of 2016, and as mentioned in the other thread the post election recount of 2000 to keep us in suspence. To top that off, some of the worst incidents ever in history.

2021 seems to be quiet and uneventful by comparison, or maybe after one major catastrophe after another in 2020 nothing is really newsworthy anymore.

2021 seems like the year to get back to normal after 2020 was just horrible.

Seems like a stretch besides the pandemic and maybe the collapse that came out of it. Those type of things happen every year.

2020 was a weird year in where the first half was amazing, even for me personally during the first little bit of the pandemic, but the second half was completely awful. All in all I would still label it a bad year. But in some ways you could argue it was better than 2018 because at least more things were happening despite it being negative at least it wasn't boring.

I agree that 2020 was a year that was just horrible.

I actually thought the second half was better than the the first (except for the first 2 months. March through June were just horrible). Maybe "better" wasn't the right word but more like "sucked less". In some ways 2021 is worse but more because of my personal life with my work situation as we are returning to the office.

I've been thinking it seems like 2022 has been like that. In addition to the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021 (it's not quite over yet and a new outbreak of the subvariant is anticipated) it also has the 1939 conflicts in Europe, the economy of 1929 mixed with 2007/8, Japan experienced an assassination like the US did in 1963 and 1968, an elementary school shooting like Sandy Hook in 2012, a mass shooting hate crime like the Charleston church shooting in 2015, and the pop culture of 2006.
