Subject: This decade already feels quite different from the 2010s.

Written By: Todd Pettingzoo on 04/19/22 at 3:57 pm

-Everything COVID related.

-Right-wing conspiracy theory nonsense becoming more mainstream

-Inflation

-Russia-Ukraine conflict

-TikTok

-NFTs

-"Woke" culture becoming more mainstream

-Needing to mix supply chains and infrastructure

I'm sure there's more.

Oh yeah they're polar opposites.

COVID is really the only strong seperator, which is already hardly relevant anymore.

But it is THE strong separator. It may be less relevant now but it changed the way of life as we know it. No matter how much people try to go back to the 2019 and before life, it just doesn't seem to work. We are also reeling from the aftermath of it like with the supply chain shortage and mental health impacts, and will for quite some time. Also the Russian genocide of Ukraine will cause an impact as well.

Really only the political culture (in some forms) and technology (smart phones and devices, social media in some forms) are what had little change from the 2010's.

How? What would you define as 2019 and before life?

Some supply chain shortages happened because of COVID like there being a shortage of transistors for gaming consoles but there's always been supply chain shortages no matter the year.

The russia/ukraine war is a seperate case.

Didn't think I needed to elaborate this any further but basically the gathering of large crowds and companies returning all employees back to the office full time without masks or any type of precaution. Also now airlines are dropping the mask mandates. We still have the virus that goes through waves of outbreaks, even though the symptoms are less severe, especially for the vaccinated + boosted. But even the top virologists are not completely sure so I always thought it's better to tread safely.

I've never seen the supply issues with empty shelves like we've seen this past year. Of course in 2020 it was with toilet paper, recently it is with a lot of other most random things. And it's not just 1 or 2 items out of stock. Also with cars and computers due to the chip shortage, due to the container ships being unable to dock. Also the labor shortage with workers not wanting to go back (especially the restaurant industry, not that I blame them).

The Russia-Ukraine War is what made COVID old news.

Exactly. It will never be back to normal ever again. At least not until this decade is over. That's why it's so different, COVID changed everything. The economy, how people live and act, etc. The WEF even said they are considering bringing in a new digital currency and want a great reset because of it... Nothing will go back to normal. We will just see more changes that will come into place this decade as a consequence for the pandemic.
