Subject: Why Is Retro Pop So Popular In The Early 2020s?

What made this genre explode with so much popularity? Almost every popular songs has that retro sound now.
I do not think it's about "escapism" since both Dua Lipa and the Weeknd put out their retro albums before the pandemic began and they are huge stars. I think retro pop would be popular whether we had the pandemic or not.

Since the late 10s Retro pop has been pretty Big. It might as well be the considered an era.
Neon era: late 80s-early 90s
Y2k era: late 90s-early 00s
Electro pop era: late 00s-early 10s
Retro pop era: late10s-early 20s

Retro pop era: late10s-early 20s
Nah the late '10s was all trap with very little pop. And the pop it did have was that gross trap-infused pop Ariana Grande did or boring lame ass songs like "Girls like you" 8-P
Retro pop really only started exploding in very late 2019 / early 2020. It was around before of course, but in 2020 it exploded on the charts.
