Subject: Flying Cars Have Finally Arrived

Written By: LyricBoy on 07/30/22 at 9:07 am

We’ve talked about these here at InThe00s many times before, and the topic has its usual crew of skeptics. BUT FLYING CARS ARE NOW A REALITY.  8)

Samson Air is now marketing its Switchblade model, which you can drive where you want to, and fly where you want to. It’s a bit pricey at $150,000 for the base model, but I would expect competition to eventually bring that pricing down.

On July 15, the Federal Aviation Administration determined it was safe for flight.

And away we go

I don't see it becoming commercialised/normalised until the 30s though if it does

This is nonsense. These "flying cars" are no different than small planes. Like I always say to people who still think the old retro vision of the future (of which "flying cars" are a hallmark) is still the actual coming future, "we already have flying cars. They're called PLANES".  ::)

So for $150,000 what does this flying car come with? ???

But this vehicle is also driven down the public roads and is street legal. You don’t see airplanes driving down the nation’s highways, except when they have to make an emergency landing.

So exactly HOW does this flying vehicle re-integrate itself into street traffic when it descends from the sky? The problems it would cause are insurmountable. Especially if there were lots of these things.

And besides, just because planes don't drive down the street it doesn't mean they CAN'T. of course they can. They don't do it because it is not practical. Any more than it would be for "flying cars", no matter what you hear. It's not that the technology doesn't exist for these things. It is that they are not practical. Like I said, it's an old vison of the future that was bypassed long ago. essentially "flying cars", rather than being "futuristic", are a thing of the past. I don't know why people don't get this.

Of course there will probably need to be some infrastructure buildout to support this. Such as strategically-placed landing lanes. Not unlike the bike lanes that we’ve seen popping up here and there.

With peer-to-peer drive/airspace negotiation technology, the flying cars will be safely inserted and extracted from ground and air traffic flows.

There was a time when people thought that electric cars could not be practical because “there’s no place to recharge them on the road”. Well look at where we are now…

Not as easy as just inserting landing lanes. What about power lines, etc. Are we going to re-route all of that too? Not practical. It would take a major overhaul of the infrastructure of the entire country. (Or world. I'm assuming these things would be international). Good luck with that.

Another reason these imaginary flying cars will never be mainstream is because 99% of the people currently driving cars on the road will be unqualified to navigate them. One would need the equivalent of a pilot's science, if not a pilot's license itself. The regulations would have to be beyond stringent. People navigating these things drunk, anyone? Think of all the drunk drivers out here on the road now. All the texters and cell phone talkers. Imagine moving them to the sky. It's an invitation to disaster. Like I said, there is a very good reason history passed the flawed concept of the "flying car" by long ago.

Geomappong technology will take care of the basic navigation and obstacle-avoidance tasks (such as steering around high tension power lines and whatnot). Cruise missile systems have had this tech since the early 80s.

Autonomous drones have already been deployed to fly themselves, so its just a matter of porting that technology to the flying cars.  8)

Where we're going we still need roads!
