Subject: When do you think AI will start becoming the norm?

Written By: NightmareFarm on 07/30/22 at 12:53 pm

I will say around 2028/2029. We will see it being used in society but very uncommon starting from like 2024/2025 but the late 20s and very early 30s is when it starts becoming the standard and is used everywhere from music to gaming etc and will start taking over jobs.

What’s being peddled as artificial “intelligence” is PR nonsense. What it is… is highly automated pattern recognition, it is not intelligence. Kinda like a trained monkey.

My company has a vendor who sells us truck cameras that use “artificial intelligence” to tell us when a truck runs a stop sign. Or when we pull a u-turn. The devices are  not “intelligent”. They have simply been programmed to detect what they’ve been told to detect. Impressive technology for sure, but far from “intelligent”.

Yes, what we're dealing with now isn't real AI. So when would real AI replace it?

I really don't want computers to take over our jobs.

You can always get a job in repairing the computers when they breakdown.

Yeah, if they can teach me how.

The robots will be able to teach you.

It depends on what you mean. Machine learning algorithms are pretty normal even now, in search engines, targeted ads, voice activated tech etc.

I hope so, maybe in the future we'll have robot bosses.

I haven't seen one yet.

I haven't seen one yet.

Siri, Alexa, voice activated telephone trees, facial recognition software, self-driving cars and Google search all use some degree of AI or AI-adjacent tech. What we haven't seen yet are systems with "real" intelligence comparable to an animal or human.

She's just a language model, like Siri, that's made to imitate how human's talk. Unless that Google employee last June was right  https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/06/11/google-ai-lamda-blake-lemoine/, no language model yet is actually conscious.

(but obviously that raises deep philosophical questions about what being 'conscious' means!)
