Subject: Clap Your Hands for a New Pandemic

Written By: LyricBoy on 01/21/23 at 8:35 am

With Covid in retreat, a new pandemic threatens… SUPER GONORRHEA.  8-P

https://gizmodo.com/super-gonorrhea-detected-massachusetts-united-states-1850012423

Super gonorrhea poses a 'major global threat', scientists warned last year in the wake of an Austrian man catching a drug-resistant version of the STI.

But Massachusetts health officials warn the strain that infected two of its patients showed signs of at least some resistance to almost every drug used to treat the bacteria.

The first patient came to doctors complaining of inflammation. The individual (claimed to have) had no known contact with gonorrhea (well I guess he was wrong about that), and also no history of recent travel.

There goes my tin foil gal opinion:
I can't take this seriously, from my own point of view, it's just another way to scare us and divert our attention from other issues.

Nevertheless it is always good to, um, *take precautions*.

I do not think this is pandemic status for it is not a world wide situation. What has WHO have to say about this?

You got that right, It's another "scare tactic" to get people afraid.

Here’s the WHO take on things.

https://www.who.int/campaigns/world-antimicrobial-awareness-week/2018/features-from-around-the-world/super-gonorrhoea-q-a-with-dr.-teodora-wi

Fortunately the article notes that we do not yet see super syphilis.

Why do they need the word "super" next to it? ::)

So as to not confuse it with the old-fashioned, wimpy gonorrhea or syphilis.

The new “super” variant is like an STD on steroids.  :o

Since it is a STD/STI, unless you're living a promiscuous lifestyle there's really nothing to worry about. It's not like COVID or the flu.

Unless if someone else has it, then you might be prone to catch it.

Somebody ought to come up with a quick-results STD test kit, like they did for Covid.

I do not wish to go into details here, but there visual signs that something could be wrong in that department.

I don't think they do but you can search the internet for them.

According to the NHS, there are test available for such purposes.

I did some looking. They have separate kits for gonorrhea, syphilis, herpes (2), and chlamydia… each of them costing $30-$40. By the time you’re done with all those tests you’re out of the mood and out of money.

Somebody needs to invent a cheaper, one-test-for-all-STD test.

I understand that many clinics do not keep regular office hours. One could probably also go to an urgent care centre

Actually, TWO would need to visit Urgent Care if their goal is to vet an impromptu tryst.

Ah, now I understand your pub reference.

If you don’t know the status of your potential partner then you should use a condom. I was talking about testing after you think you have symptoms or suspect you might be infected.
