Looks like the jig is up for “Buffy”.

The legendary Oscar-winning songwriter and Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee has had her prestigious Order of Canada appointment terminated as of January 3rd :o. The award is (in her case, was) the country’s highest honor presented to a civilian.
Despite her longtime claims of being an indigenous Canadian, an investigation by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s “Fifth Estate” show, published on Oct. 27, 2023 alleges that Sainte-Marie fabricated her Indigeneity, and presented a birth certificate shown on camera listing Boston, Mass. as her place of birth, “color of race” as “white,” and birth name as Beverly Jean Santamaria. ;D In other words, she’s a plain old white American living in the Great White North.
Elizabeth Warren and Rachel Dolezal are probably having a good chuckle over this.

Santamaria = Italian or Spanish surname, IIRC?

The CBC investigation said that she is of Italian and English lineage.
From her Wikipedia page:
Sainte-Marie was born at the New England Sanitarium and Hospital in Stoneham, Massachusetts, to parents Albert Santamaria and Winifred Irene Santamaria, née Kenrick. The Santamarias were an American couple from Wakefield, Massachusetts. Her father's parents were born in Italy while her mother was of English ancestry. Her family changed their surname from Santamaria to the more French-sounding "Sainte-Marie" due to anti-Italian sentiment following the Second World War.

I can remember the time when she was on Sesame Street.
