Subject: "Live" albums

Written By: rf (Guest) on 11/26/01 at 11:33 a.m.

It's hard to narrow down favorite artists, albums, or songs. How about live albums? What are the favorite "Live" albums from the seventies. The three that come to my mind are "Live Bullet", "Wing's Over America", and "Concert for Bangladesh". I've worn out more than one 8-track of "Live Bullet".

And don't forget Frampton Comes Alive!, the best-selling live album of the 1970's!  When that album came out on a single CD, I bought it…

In Australia, I'd think "Hot August Night" would be the killer.

Might actually be 1969, but Humble Pie's "Rockin' The Fillmore" is a great live album.  Frampton's last thing with the band.

Also, I know this is 80s, not 70s, but at least some of the songs are from the 70s...  :P

I love "Alchemy" by Dire Straits. When Douglas Adams wrote about the "good bit" in a Dire Straits song happening just as Arthur and Fenchurch were *getting it on* in "So Long, and Thanks For All the Fish", I just *knew* he was writing about "Tunnel Of Love".

Steve Martin's "Wild and Crazy Guy" wouldn't qualify for a musical live album, but it was hilarious. :D

I'd much rather hear "Baby, I Love Your Way" whereas "Do You Feel Like We Do" is a great song if you're a disc-jockey in dire need of some serious bathroom time!  :D

Did anyone notice that by the early 80s that album was available at every Goodwill store in the nation for about a quarter....?  ;D  (Ducking quickly to avoid being pummled by eggs, rotten fruit and various other nasty missiles).

I never got into live albums too much. The Stones "Get Your Ya Yas Out" was good, but that was 1968 or 1969. The only live albums of the 70s I can think of that I bought and liked were Todd Rundgren's "Another Live" and "Mott the Hoople Live."

I am an old time Cat Stevens fan, so my fave live LP would be his Saturnight, which was recorded in 1974!

Fantastic live albums?

Hot August Night--Neil Diamond...definitely his best work.
Saturnight--Cat Stevens....this one is extremely rare but if you can acquire a copy of it you will be pleased.  Only 10,000 copies were released but you may find it at Ebay.  It is worth the cost.
Fleetwood Mac--Live  I love it
Eagles--Live--I also love it.

Peace,
Yusufscat

Definitely.  This is the Allman's at their prime.  I really dig their improvisational style as you never know whats coming up next.  These 2 CDs alost never leave my CD changer.

One time I had a Rare Earth album from 1971. They were apparently performing on a beach or something. Before they sang "Big Brother", they warned the crowd to get out of the water, so they won't get shocked with all the electric cords around, or they couldn't continue the concert. Pretty wierd moment.
