Were you ga-ga for ABBA? Did the Bee Gees give you Night Fever? Did Boston rock your world? Now's your chance to vote for your favorite 70s Artist.  ;D

If you would have asked that question twenty years ago, it would have been Bob Seger. Now, looking back that far, it's impossible to narrow to less than ten.  Lets see: Seger, Eagles, Fleetwood Mack, Jackson Browne, ELO, etc, etc, etc...

WTH? How come nobody has mentioned David Bowie, Eric Clapton, The Sex Pistols, Joe Jackson, Billy Joel, Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry, Brian Eno, Joy Division, The Ramones, T. Rex, and Rush?! These bands/artists should definitely be in everyone's top ten list. Does it also count that many "80s bands" began their careers in the 70s? That would include The Clash, The Cure, Kraftwerk, INXS, Ultravox!, Japan and many others...

I would agree with all of the bands mentioned except Rush and the Sex Pistols. Rush is boring and Sex Pistols just plain suck. :-X

Everyone has great selections here! Besides all the disco groups my #1 band of the 70's and ALL decades is Led Zepplin. Stairway To Heaven is my #1 rock song of all time!

I also listened to alot of Grand Funk, Boston, Chicago, Carole King and Bread to name a few.

I am always listening (whenever I can, that is) to 70s artists. A lot of my CD collection is devoted, however, to 80s Electronica. The 70s stuff (over 300 CD's, whenever I can be bothered to dig them out), is what I listen to around June-July, since this Christmas season is devoted to that uplifting Electronica stuff.

well, some of mine are:

Suzi Quatro
The Knack
The Jacksons
Dire Straits
Joe Cocker
Cat Stevens
Ram Jam
The Rolling Stones
Queen
John Lennon

Well I could keep going for ages, but I'll leave it at the nice even number of 10.

A very, very, very good list, Sharona. Comprehensive, yet very varied. The kind of music I like, too. John Lennon was the musical genius of the last century. As for the others, they all hold their little place in history, not to mention my CD collection.

Bee-Gees. Definitely.  ABBA has always been big around this household, but Bee-Gees still win me over ("How Deep is You Love" *pitter-patter* goes my heart).  Also, I think that this qualifies...Air Supply.  To be honest, I think they emerged in 1980.  Correct me if I'm wrong.

You were the first person who mentioned STYX.  That surprises me (of course, I am a fan).  You also mentiones Shaun Cassidy, how about Andy Gibb?  He was definately a hottie.

I loved the Bee Gees (I couldn't admit it, though, I would have been lauged at).  Then there's AC/DC....It is tough to mention them all.

I'm sure I was one of the few guys to own the Shawn Cassidy album with Da Doo Run Run.  My mom got it for me , I guess because it was "Joe Hardy" and she knew I was a big Hardy Boys fan.

I just picked-up his Greatest Hits CD at Wherehouse a week ago. Nostalgia for Run Run & Hey Deanie, and the fact that I'd never seen it before, and knew I'd never see it again and say " I shoulda..."   :)

I don't think that I could pick my most favorite. There is a lot that I really like. This may sound weird but I just recently (past 5 years) started replacing some of my old favorite vinyl and tapes with CDs. I don't know what happened to all my vinyl or tapes but through the years they have disappeared. My minor CD collection is a good indication of what my favorites are. A good percentage of them are YES (Classic). Relayer, Close to the Edge, Going for the One...

Wow! That's probably the only time I've heard YES mentioned on this or any other board!  :o  (Ooops, I have to go to the 80's board and bring up one of my favorite songs on the "Lost 45's..." thread  ;D )

Been replacing my albums and tapes for a while now. I've kept dozens of cassettes through the years, but find many of them don't even play anymore.

Good choice of classic Yes. Seen them around '77, give or take a year.

Oh, I like YES, BTW!  ;D  I also wanted to bring up one of my faves "Leave it" (I know it's not classic YES) on the 80's board, but haven't gotten a chance to yet.  ;D

I remember very little 70s music, being only 6 when the 70s ended. I do remember that I got in trouble with my mom in 1978 for saying 'Disco sucks' really loudly in the grocery store. I tried to catch up later on. I like Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith (Boston boys!!) and Queen. I also like a lot of songs by Steely Dan, the Cars and the Who, but I'm not real clear on when they recorded the songs I like. This is entirely the fault of WZLX, Boston's classic rock station  :-/ which plays mostly the Greatest Hits albums of the top 20 artists/groups of all time. Their programming is no good for developing a sense of history.

I love April Wine!!  I didn't get turned on to them until early 80's though.  My boyfriend at the time used to listen to them all the time.  I only know a few people who even know who they are. I think I'll listen to them right now.  :)

As for my favorites, I had the usual teenbopper favorites in the early 70's:
Donny Osmond, Shawn Cassidy, Leif Garrett, etc, etc.
CS reminded of another favorite that I just had to add:
Bay City Rollers  :)

But in the later 70's I was really into Alan Parson Project, ELO, Bee Gees, and especially Queen.  So I would have to say my favorite was Queen.
