Subject: Great "Distant am stations from the 70's

Written By: BostonFan76 on 02/02/02 at 02:20 p.m.

There was a great am station located in Elpaso Texas.  Thier transmitter was across the border in Warez Mexico.  The purpose was so they could broadcast with 150,000 watts of power as opossed to The FCC US limit of 50,000.  They advertised they could be heard in 44 states at night!  All I remember is they rocked!  Does anybody else remember them?

;D  WLS Chicago was an awsome am station.  I still have a box of cassettes of recordings from the radio back in the 70's.
A favorite of mine is spring of '76.   Bohemian Rhapsody, Dream Weaver, Rhiannon...were still the top of the charts on the broadcast recorded.  I've even downloaded old radio jingles from the station including an old Eastern Airlines commercial (New Orleans destination).  Great memories!  Thankyou!

I concur Suredew. I live in a part of the US where any decent am station was distant and your post about WLS brought back some memories of rockin' the night away.
