Who in here likes listening to The Village People? My favorites are:

-YMCA
-MACHO MAN
-SAN FRANSISCO(YOU GOT ME)
-IN THE NAVY
-GO WEST
-HOT COP

I'm pretty sure everyone has a lot of them. They were pretty hot during the late 1970's gay era. -howard- :)

Excuse me for asking this but, didn't most of them die long ago from aids?  I could swear that I heard that before :-/

I don't know what just happened to my message there, so I'll post it again.  This was in response to RnRF's question.

The producer for The Village People died in the 1990's of AIDS-related complications, but to the best of my knowledge none of the actual band members have contracted the disease.  Most are alive and well and a few of the originals are still touring today.  There is one member, the leather-clad macho guy, who died within the past year from what I believe was some form of cancer.  I just know that it wasn't AIDS.

No, they didn't all die. Just one - "Glenn R. Hughes died at his Manhattan home on March 4th, 2001 at the age of 50 of Lung Cancer."

I think their "campy" sound is very entertaining. Their music is still played and very much alive as are the rest of the original members.

I haven't been to a party that didn't feature at least one of their hits.  ;)

Neither have I, Haispray.  Mainly it's "Y.M.C.A."  :)

In reply to RnRF:

Unfortunately, there are still some people out there that have the mistaken notion and automatically assume that if a "suspected" gay person dies, that it was from AIDS.

I didn't know any of them were gay.  ;)

Good point, J.C.  ;)

RnRF's mentioned rumor is a very common and active one based on their "assumed" sexuality. I say "assumed" because I have no idea as to their preference nor do I care. To each their own. Live and let live. Etc, etc.  :)

I vaguely remember seeing some sort of bio on them on TV, and if I recall correctly they were all straight. Or all but one were straight. One or the other.

I believe it is the second way.  All but one of them were straight.  I had a friend whose online signature had to do with The Village People, he was a big fan.  And his signature quoted that the band had a reputation as all of them being gay because it was known that one of them was.  Or something to that effect.  Plus they got there start when Macho Man became popular in gay bars.

That's the bug to which I'm referring in the System Announcements board. See SA board for more details.  ;)

Just to Clarify: I never said I thought they were gay...I just wondered if what I'd heard was true....It may have been from "People" Magazine which IMHO is sometimes no better than "Globe"  I just wasn't sure....I didn't mean to offend anybody and I am not one of the non-educated that think aids is ONLY contracted by Gay people.  Sorry again :-X

It's ok RnRF. I know you didn't mention anything about their sexual orientation and I certainly don't think you are among the uneducated... I thought you had read the exact same rumors from the web as I did (it happens to be in the same realm) and I commented on the issue with that in thought.  :)
