Subject: THE MOST ANNOYING SONG OF THE 70'S

Written By: Yusufscat on 05/20/02 at 04:04 p.m.

Now this is a personal opinion but I have to voice it.  I think the most annoying song of the 70's is "Loving You"... I can assume that is the name of the song.

It goes like this..

'Loving you, is easy cause your beautiful.
Everyday of my life is spent on loving you.
Loving you, I feel you soul come shining through
And everytime that we...oooh, I'm so in love with you.
La la la la la, la la la la la, la la la la la la la la la la, bippidipity doo....AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!"  I am sure that there are some errors in the lyrics, but you got the idea.  I have no idea who performed this irritating little ditty.  But it was funny in that commercial on television where the guy was trying to get "Who Let The Dogs Out" for some sporting event but could not do so because he didn't use Mastercard...

:)  Tell me friends, is that song totally annoying or what? :)

Peace,
A'isha

That song was by the late Minnie Ripperton.  While it's not a favorite of mine, I didn't mind it up to the point where she does her high pitched squeal...

I hate that song.  You see, when I was in highschool I went to Chior competition and one guy competing decided to sing that dreadful song.  He kept singing 'Fillins' nothing more than fillins' fillins' of love...'  I swear my teeth hurt with the thought of dentistry and getting my teeth drilled.  So now everytime I hear "Feelings" I still here that boy singing "Fillins'"

Two songs from round about the same time always make me cringe.......

"Classic" by Adrian Gurvitz (a one-hit wonder - one hit too many that is)

"Key Largo" by Bertie Higgins (ditto)

There are so many, honourable mentions should go to :

"Lady In Red" by Chris De Burgh (Syrup overflowing)

"Some Days Are Diamonds" by John Denver (Can't think of anything catty to say here, just don't like it)

And I know this one's not from the 70's but I had to mention it anyway :

"Achy Breaky Heart" by Billy Ray Cyrus  (they weren't people line dancing in the film clip, they were lining up to get out the door !)

A disco song...among MANY...called "Get Off" with a bunch of women singing oowaa, oowaa...over and over...

At 17 by Janis Ian-1975...It's alright but sometimes it just gets on my last nerve >:(

Chick-a-boom by Daddy Dewdrop.....no comment

I Am, I Said by Neil Diamond...just did not like it!

Speaking of Neil Diamond....his duet with "The Nose" called "You Don't Bring Me Flowers"

and saving my  WORST for last...1977....song from a really crappy movie......by a 1 hit wonder.....who is the daughter of a 50's singer...........a record we used to recieve free from a radio station promotion and then would burn it......
okay, okay....Debbie Boone with "You Light Up My Life" There I finally said it.......as I duck under my desk Please don't hurt me?

There were soooo many songs of the 70s that I loved to hate!  :D

Probably the two worst:

A song that came out in 1976 called "Hot Line" -- the lyrics were "calling on the hot line, hot line, for your love, for your love" Over and over and over. It was on our high school cafeteria jukebox.

And: Lonely Boy by Andrew Gold. Let's see --parents have son, who is a spoiled brat, then they have a second child, a daughter, and it ruins his life! What kind of idiotic psycho babble was that anyway?

This song was brought up a couple of times on the old '80s board. You're thinking of "Eugene" by Crazy Joe and the Variable Speed Band, which was a minor hit here in the U.S. in the Winter of '81 (not '70s). Believe it or not, it was co-written and co-produced by Ace Frehley (yes, that Ace Frehley!)...

Believe it or not, there was a version of "Theme from Shaft" by Sammy Davis, Jr.! He added words to the song to pad it out so it wouldn't be so instrumental.
There is a part where he keeps singing the word "bad" to the tune of the song.

"Bad, bad, bad, bad, badBAD, bad,
Bad, bad, bad, bad, badBAD, bad."

I "really dig" his final spoken words during the fadeout: "Go ahead with your bad self, John Shaft."

That was Richard Harris, who recorded it in the late 60's. It somehow got to be a hit song, but I can't for the life of me understand how.
The entire song sounded like easy listening, except for this rocky instrumental part that was placed there out of nowhere with "train-wreck" results. It sounded sort of like the music they play on "Price is Right" when they have "a new car!"
There was an "SCTV" segment of "Mel's Rock Pile" that had Richard Harris, played by Dave Thomas, as a "guest" singing that sing. Mel walked up on stage to interview Richard while the instrumental part was going on.
For those of you thought like I did that maybe when they made a 45 of it, it was an edited version, let me assure you that I got one at a flea market once and yes, they were able to fit the entire 7 minutes and change onto 1 side of the 45.
Yes, it did sound pretty dreadful. Richard Harris was a movie actor, which continues to prove that movie actors shouldn't record songs.

The song "Lovin' You" was sung by Minnie Riperton.  While not one of my favorite songs, Minnie was truly a remarkable woman.  She was one of the first celebrities to share her struggles with Breast Cancer and left an incredible legacy with her activism for this cause.  She eventually succumbed to the disease in July 1979.

I have to agree that Lovin' You makes me cringe when Minnie

Paul Davis: "When I look in your eyes I go crazy".

Eric Clapton's "I shot the Sheriff"

"I've got a brand new pair of roller skates, your got a brand new key" by who gives a rip...

"Precious and Few" is typical of the woosie pop era, along with "If" by Bread and "Longer than" by Dan Fogelberg (heard at every freaking wedding in the 70's) and damn near every whiney song by Stephen Bishop.....

Speaking of which, there were several bad songs sung by television actors. These include, but not limited to:
"Let Her In" by John Travolta (his first, his worst)
"Don't Give Up On Us Baby" by David Soul ("Hutch" of "Starsky & Hutch")
Anything sung by Telly Savalas or a Star Trek cast member.
"All Roads Lead To You"-By Donny Most, who played the token idiot Ralph on "Happy Days" and anything by Anson Williams.

And the worst movie soundtrack songs:
"The Morning After"-Maureen McGovern (From The Poseiden Adventure) and the Theme from "The Towering Inferno", also sungby McGovern.
"It Goes Like It Goes"-Jennifer Warnes (From "Norma Rae". It somehow got the Oscar for Best Song over The Rainbow Connection from "The Muppet Movie")
And Mavin Hamlisch's version of "The Entertainer", on "The Sting" soundtrack.
