Subject: sexually explicit lyrics:

Does anyone remember from way back in those days when they had songs with sexually explicit lyrics from the Disco era? How about KC and The Sunshine Band's music when Harry Casey mentioned in an interview that he had to change his lyrics from"an explicit kind"to more"fun"songs.Remember his songs"I'm Your BoogieMan",That's the Way I Like It,etc...Or how about Donna Summer's"Love To Love You"and Dim All The Lights that had sexual references plus Donna Summer was moaning in"Love To Love You".Plus you had songs that referred to"doing it",having sex, caressing, kissing, touching and others of this kind.I know I'm not that old and I'm not that young but I do remember listening to most of those songs and Believe me,most of those songs back then were banned from the radio cause of their sexual nature.Does anyone remember this? -howard- :)

Yeah, but none of these songs had foul language or blantently obscene lyrics. The only thing that came close was "Push, Push (In the Bush)" by Unknown, and that one is obscure at best.

In the 70's it was more suggestive than anything.

Now, no one would ever expect Cat Stevens to have anything sexually explicit in his music...not 'the Peace Train guy'.  But he did.

Like this, "Well I gotta mona bone jakon, and it won't be lonely for long..."  ASK CATLOVER WHAT A MBJ IS ON THAT CAT STEVENS THREAD... ;)  ;D

And we have the song "Later"...also based upon a time when he was, how do I word this delicately...?  Well, Cat said in an interview that the song was inspired when he was horny...There I said the 'H' word.   :-[ :-[ :-[

And there is the song "Ready"...  "I love, I love, I'm ready to love,  yeah...."   And then we have "Bonfire"... basically the song ends with Cat saying, "I just take off my clothes and jump into the fire again" and you hear alot of moaning sounds.  Cat did put some sexuality in many of his songs, but he wasn't gross or vulgar.  It was something that simmered under the surface of many of his songs.  And it drove the ladies wild....

Love,
A'isha

A'isha,

Now do you really expect LITTLE OLE ME to tell everyone what a MBJ IS? I wouldn't be able to do so without cracking up all over the place! A'isha is right! Cat did have some songs that were quite sensual, but it was nothing vulger, and it DID drive us ladies wild!

I had to review one of their gigs once and interview their manager who tried to convince me that the songs weren't that bad,and patronising me like hell, twat.Yeah right, another instance of me getting pissed off at being treated as a 'dumb blonde'. The band themselves were a good laugh from what I remember

How about "The Lemon Song" by Led Zeppelin... "Stay With Me" by Rod Stewart....talk about being respectful to his lady...
"In the morning, don't say you love me cos I'll only kick you out of the door."  There is a two syllable word for a guy like that and 'hole' is the second syllable.  Of course, AC/DC really 'Shook us all night long'...with their 'double time in the seduction line....she made a meal out of me and came back for more'...talk about explicit...AC/DC really had that covered.  And Aerosmith is notorious for sexually explicity.  Steve Tyler is rumored to obsessed with sex.

Maybe it is just me but I think that most rock has a hint of sexuality woven in its chords.

Love,
A

Let me just mention:

MARVIN GAYE:
("let's get It On") and("Sexual healing") also has some suggestiveness in the songs. In"Sexual healing"he sings about a medicine that will make him horny."Let's get It On"refers to having sex.

-DONNA SUMMER
("Hot Stuff")In this song, she sings about in the middle of her song that she can't wait to bring a woman home and getting it on with her.Sheesh.Talk about"Hot Stuff". :o  :-X

-MUSIQUE
("Push,Push(In The Bush).At first,I just thought that"bush"back then was being a reference to a woman's body part. But,I think now that"bush"probably now means"the dance floor"or something else.I don't know.

Cold Chisel's "Khe Sahn" was originally banned because of the line "...their legs were often open/But their minds were always closed".
AC/DC was mentioned before, for "You Shook Me All Night Long" but that song is mere innuendo when you compare it to "The Jack" and "Go Down".

Woman you're a mess gonna die in your sleep

Can't keep you home, you're messin around

You mean you are familiar with Ian solo, but not with Mott? Tsk Tsk. And I was setting this up for a great comeback line too! ;D

Well, I cannot resist a dare....

Just a teensy selection:

From "Sucker": "you can smoke my cigar all night thru the link in your chain..."

Now, are you shocked?  :o

Bowie gave them that song as a favor, and I remember reading an interview with Ian where he basically said he was clueless about the meaning of the lyrics and could not figure out why they suddenly had this huge following of young boys! :) And then of course, they recorded Lou Reed's "Sweet Jane" which only added to the image! :D

Good evening! I am back with the Elton John song I promised earlier...

"There were tears in the sky,
And the clouds in your eyes,
                    Were just covers-
               Your thighs were the cushions,
                 of my love and yours,
                    for each other..."

Let me say thank-you to Bernie Taupin for such a romantic wonderful scene.

To hear the whole song try the self titled first album
"Elton John"  The Last Episode at Hienton.

There were tons of porno-type Disco songs from the late '70s that were only played at dance clubs or sex clubs.  Here are some that I either have or remember:

"Get it Up Baby"
"Get it Up for Love"
"I Like (What You're Doing to Me)"
"You're Place or Mine"
"Hey Mister Big Ten Incher"
"Is It All Over My Face?"
"Get It Up and Do It Again"

Here's some of the above songs' lyrics within the tunes:

"Caught me love making, is it all over my face?; "You gotta big ten incher"; "I need you to fullfill my sexual needs"; "Get it tight we're gonna make it right...let's get down to business, or don't waste my time."  "I'll jerk you all night, Mr. Right".  Of course there was plenty of explicit moaning and groaning in these and countless other tunes.

Many people were never aware of the sub-category of Disco that had existed BEYOND the basic Bee Gees level.  There were many obscure, hooker, Go-Go bar, sex club Disco songs that were produced in the late '70s by underground labels.  These songs were NEVER heard on the radio and are probably decaying in some ex-DJ's basement right now.  Only small album volumes of these songs were ever cut and sold only to DJ's or underground record stores.  Many of these songs were actually much better crafted than the typical Top-40 Disco crap stuck in everone's heads.  They had great hooks, powerful vocals, awesome Funky Progressive Rock-type grooves/riffs (think Santana, Alman Brothers, etc),  and in-your-face sexual content that made Donna Summer sound like Sandra Dee.

Okay...if we're talking sexually explicit lyrics from the 70s then not one song can beat Slow Poke by April Wine.....

I got something to keep you satisfied
So won't you excuse me while I slip inside
I ain't gonna rush things, you know I ain't no speed freak
I like to take my time whenever I eat
So how about a slow poke with long strokes?
Said how about a slow poke baby? I like to take my time...poke on

I'd like to see you with the lights turned down
And I'd like to see you when you go down
And I'm gonna be there right by your side
I'm just gonna hang on when ya take me for a ride
So how about a slow poke with long strokes?
Said how about a slow poke baby? I like to take my time...alright

I'd like to poke you right here on the floor
I ain't gonna stop none until I hear ya call for more
And I'm gonna tease you until you're ready to scream
Then I'm gonna please you, it's gonna seem like a dream
So how about a slow poke with long strokes?
Said how about a slow poke baby? I like to take my time...poke on

MARVIN GAYE:
("let's get It On") and("Sexual healing") also has some suggestiveness in the songs. In"Sexual healing"he sings about a medicine that will make him horny."Let's get It On"refers to having sex.

End Quote

Marvin Gaye sings "Please don't procrastinate, it's not good to masturbate" at the very end of "Sexual Healing" (you can just barely hear it).  Man that song makes me want to puke.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Frank Zappa.
The "Overnite Sensation" album from the early 70's was full of explicit lyrics. "Dinah-Moe Hum" could never be played in the US for fear of the FCC (although I did hear it on a rock station in the late 90's... Times have changed) because it was too explicit (for those unfamiliar, it describes an "orgasm contest", in very crude terms, between Zappa and a pair of sisters).

"Dirty Love" received lots of airplay. I never understood the logic behind playing that one, considering the poodle reference at the end...

  "Give me your dirty love,
Just like your mamma make her fuzzy poodle do
   Give me your dirty love,
Just like your mamma make that nasty poodle chew."

In the 70s, 'Je T'aime' by Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsborough caused uproar because they were implying that they were having sex with their moaning and groaning. I thought the song was rubbish.

In the 80s, Lil Louis did a song called 'French Kiss'. I don't care what anyone says that woman was groaning while having sex!

In the 90s, K7 gave us 'Come baby Come'. The song had so many sex references.

'2 balls and a bat
A pitcher with a hat. . .'

A couple of mentionables...

Firstly, a groaner...
Major Harris' "Love Won't Let Me Wait" went slightly overboard with the girlie groaning at the end of the song (it was subsequently tastefully edited for radio play...)

A naughty one from the 80's...
Grace Jones (who's hardly a shrinking violet, let's face it) had a huge club hit with "Pull Up To The Bumper" in 1981 - it eventually crossed over in 1986 - in which she sings:
Pull up to my bumper, baby
In your long black limousine
Pull up to my bumper, baby
Slide it in between...
...my guess is she's not parking the car for the weekly shop!

And finally...
Mention must be made of two gentlemen who never recieved a piece of airplay ever...
Judge Dread and Ivor Biggun (think about it)
...both charted with their respective outputs here, (i.e., Big Six/Seven/Eight etc and The Winker's Song respectively) but if you want the lyrics - I think you'd better go search...!

Get Down Make Love - Queen
Freak Me - bad song by a bad band I can't remember
Anything Goes - Guns N' Roses
My Michelle - Guns N' Roses

I think I'm off the decade... Never mind.

I know of Judge Dread. They did a song called 'Up with the cock', supposedly about waking up in a farm (?). I only listened to it once because it was so cringeworthy - I would feel funny listening to that on a personal CD player.

Yeah, he says that... you have to turn your headset all the way up, and you can hear him barely whisper it...

But that's on CD; most radio stations don't play songs to the very end like that.

Rick Derringer's "Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo"
in one line he says, "warm little pussy, gonna do it to you ."
Talk about Blatant..
Led Zeppelin's Lemon Song,  "squeeze my lemon til the juice runs down my leg.."   Whole Lotta Love... "shake for me girl, wanna be your backdoor man" (someone mentioned this one already..)
Rod Stewart - Hot Legs (the whole song praises the glory of a woman with mile high legs.. and how "Hot Legs, you keep my pencil sharp."
Rod Stewart- "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy"  this is completely sexual..
Rod Stewart- Maggie May " You turned into a lover, and mother what a lover, you wore me out.. "
Let's just say Rod is very sexual..
We went to a Rod Stewart concert many years ago and we held up a banner.. "We want your Rod..."  oops.. maybe that should have said "We want you Rod.." But I think he would appreciate the sexual overtness.  :)

I forgot to mention the Rolling Stones..
Some Girls-  There are many references to sex in that song.. including "Black Girls just want to get fucked all night, I just don't have that much gas"
"Short and Curlies" welll guess what this is referring to..?
"Star Star" take a listen to that song once...
"Brown Sugar" this song sings about a slave driver and his fancy for the taste of "Brown Sugar"
1981's album Tattoo You has a few songs..
"Start Me Up" - " If you start me up, I'll never stop. You make a grown man cry, you make a dead man come"
"Little T&A" - sung by Keith Richards.."she's my little rock and roll..her tits and ass with soul.."
Mick is right up there with Rod when it comes to Sexual inuendo.

I thought he was singing, "C'mon a little closer, gonna do it to you ." BTW, Johnny Winter's version is much better, more raw, less commercial (IMHO).

Hmm, no-ones mentioned the 70s song that immeditaly sparng to my mind:

Stranglers - Peaches

''Walking on the beaches, looking a the peaches...well would you take a look over there, where? Is she trying to get out of that clitoris? Liberation for women, that's what I preach'' ;D

On a similar line there's 'Teenage Kicks' by the Undertones - a blatent masturbation song, as are some 80s tunes such as 'Turning Japanese' (Vapours) and 'She Bop (Cyndi Lauper)

What about Semi Charmed Life by Third Eye Blind
She comes round and she goes down on me
And I make her smile
Like a drug for you
Do ever what you want to do
Coming over you

The Right Thing by Simply Red
In the middle of the night, when the time is right
Sexily right, I'm gonna do the right thing,
Feeling hot, I ain't never gonna stop
To get what you got, you better take what I bring
Feel it now, much harder now .....

Feel I'm getting harder now, get off your back four
Get on top more
Feel I'm sinking farther down, get off your back four
Get on top more .....

Or I Touch Myself by the Divinyls except I always think of Austin Powers singing this whilst wearing his Union Jack undies.  Quite a few Divinyls songs have interesting lyrics.

Cheers :D

You know Criz I thought you were making this line up.  I'd certainly never heard it before.

But I happened to have my Stranglers CD here at work so I just listened to that track again.  And you're right he really does say that.  The pronouncation is slightly strange (or maybe I say it wrong?  :D ) so I guess that's why I'd never noticed before.

It was still fairly obvious what he was on about anyway I think

This was an early incidence of the infamous radio edit, which is maybe why you don't remember hearing the line as Criz wrote it. In 1977 the version they used to play on Radio One went "Is she trying to get out of that bikini".

I bet if that record came out now they would play it with no edit.

I noticed that the 'original' version of Heart of Glass by Blondie is played now instead of the edit which changed the line about soon found out it was a pain in the ass

I know this is a discussion about the '70s... and I also know that by modern-day standards (or even '70s standards), Tommy James & The Shondelles' "I Think We're Alone Now" is pretty tame.  But I still wonder how a song that was blatantly and forthrightly about two teenagers running off into the woods to have sexual intercourse managed to pass muster on Top-40 radio in an era when some deejays were even refusing to play "Light My Fire."

Yeah the pronounciation is a bit odd, but I think he might just say that for the effect. It took me a while to pick up on it, but when I really listened to the lyrics I just thought I gotta get some validation! Checked a lyrics website and of course, it was exactly what I heard ;D
