Following the success of the 80's roll call self pic, the suggestion of a 70's self pic was raised, so I shall start off :
Here's me in 1972, from my Soccer Team's premiership winning team photo. Taringa Rovers, we won the Under 11 (D) competition. Check out the 50's style shirt with the lace-up !
I was 10 at the time. Alas, it was my high point in sport - all downhill after that, but who cares ?

oh those dresses.....arghhhhhhhh...our step mother did not have kids of her own and loved to dress us up and take us out for pix....we HATED doing it....but we always put up a good front...I think I was about 6 and goldie was around 10....and if you think these clothes are bad....you should see the western wear outfit she made us dress in the next year for photos!!!! ::)

Thought I would sneak in from the 80's - had a wierd 80's moment today and didnt want to relive it - so I thought I would drift back into the 70's.
Dug this lil montage up. Me from age 9 in 77 to 11 in 79. I cant believe I found a photo with an actual kaftan in it - I was on holiday in Bali !!

Rotto (as we locals refer to it) is the standard place for school camps - well it was in the 70's and 80's - no idea if it is still used for that purpose now. Its an island 20km off the coast of Perth. Its roughly 12km long and only about 2km wide. You can ride around it on a push bike several times in one day. There are no cars allowed on the island at all. It has a small resort, a family accomodation place, some cottages, and a big tent city area for camping.
I hated my school camp tho. There were no kind but looney Bill Murrays there as instructors - instead we got some major physco who got real pleasure out of attempting to drown the females during the morning swim, he also beat me and another girl when we accidently knocked over a lamp - beat us with a leather belt. Great guy - not ! I liked my holiday in Bali better !!!!!

Yes - that fabulous position of power that teachers, camp leaders, guide and scout leaders - etc etc all have ! Naturally if it happened these days the kids would scream abuse and sue ! No such luck back then !

No, actually they didn't. We lived in Missouri at the time, and I don't think there were many agencies around. My aunt just did a great job with the photos, I don't think I was that cute all the time. ;)

I always wanted straight hair, and I used to work against my curls (trying to straighten my hair w/ an iron). I walked around with an afro for a few years. Finally, I decided to be happy with what God gave me - I discovered mousse and a diffuser, and now I am actually happy to have naturally curly hair.

I understand totally natmc! My hair is naturally curly too and until about 3 years ago, I was straightening it. I decided to quit fighting it and just let it be curly. It's much easier and looks better than it did all of those years with it trying to be straight!

I had always thought my brown eyes were "boring", and wished I'd had the dark hair with the blue eyes like you do, myself..but, it just wasn't to be...my mom's features were just too darned dominant! That car was from a kiddie ride at a little amusement park we used to go to. The park closed down sometime in the late 80's, most of the rides there were really, really old, but really fun.The cool rides were sent off to other amusement parks , so hopefully kids somewhere else in the country are enjoying those now!

Yeah, but our cheers were your basic variety of High School cheers. Although one thing we did that was kind of weird was that at Homecoming we had the "Topping of the Beet" ceremony, where we'd all sing the school song (I can't even remember it now) and then the head cheerleader would use a beet knife to cut the leafy stuff off of the top of this huge beet. It would be about the size of a cantaloupe. That's a big beet. I'm surprized none of the cheerleaders ever cut off a finger.

Of course I was a Gig Harbor "Tides", not much to fear except miss some clam digging if you don't get there quick enough. Originally the name was the "High Tides" but to many students thought they had a legacy to live up to and dope smokin' 8) wasn't part of the state school athletic programs. ;)
