Subject: Favorite 70's Artist

Written By: superrich23 on 09/29/02 at 04:23 p.m.

My favorite 70's artist is Billy Joel, because of he is a great lyricist, and a great musician. One of the best piano players I have ever heard. I also like Jim Croce. I could say he is up there on my favorites list with Billy Joel, he had wonderful lyrics, he showed heart, and I loved how he always had a smile whenever he was at one of his performances.

Judging solely by the number of CD's I have from each artist, either Led Zeppelin, Elvis Costello or Bruce Springsteen.

Ditto. Too much great music from that decade for me to name 1,2, or even 4or5 favorites. But I'm with you, Billy Joel and Jim Croce would both be way up on the list.

Steve Miller Band - see my thread
Donna Summer - as 1 book I read said, 1 of the few rock-era artists who can actually sing, hooked up w/awesome Disco arrangements.  Go Donna!
3 Dog Night - guess they started '60s but I think most '70s
Elton John - I liked his later stuff too but he had alot in the '70s; wish they'd play the original cut of "Candle in the Wind" rather than his own remake - I loved those ethereal, echoing, other-wordly arrangements
Eagles - I admit they have quite a few goodies
Barry Manilow - I loved him too; I don't care what people think

Many others that were good but I pick these for quantity and, umm, "longevity".

I assume from your artist picks (April Wine, Edward Bear, Craig Ruhnke, Bryan Adams, etc.) that you're Canadian. I don't know how well the above songs performed on the pop chart in Canada, but here's when they peaked here in the States:

1. Summer of '74...
2. Not a hit in the U.S...
3. Not a hit in the U.S...
4. Not a hit in the U.S...
5. 1979 (have the vinyl 12" single myself - yes, a great song, but definitely not a ballad!)
6. Not a hit in the U.S...
7. Spring of '74...
8. Not a hit in the U.S...
9. Fall of '73...
10. Fall of '73...
