Subject: SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER

I don't know what this movie was suppose to be about. There was no plot anywhere. I guess it's just suppose to be about dancing and the music is awesome.

Basically, it was about a loser who does good (on the dance floor). I remember all the hype about the movie and couldn't wait to see it. When I finally did, I was soooo disappointed. If it wasn't for the music, the movie would have been a total waste. (I think I paid something like $3.50 to see it. lol)  I think the sequal "Staying Alive" is much better. The dancing was incredible.

Or, as the misheard lyric goes, which will be stuck in my brain forever...

Ha ... ha ... ha ... ha ... thingamabob, thingamabob.

Now I got my 6 year old nephew singing that. Thanks, Amiright.  :P

What always cracked me up about that song was the lyrics and Barry Gibbs voice. They didn't seem to match up.
"You can tell by the way I use my walk I'm a women's man, no time to talk." Barry Gibbs voice did not sound like he was a "women's man." But of course, that was the 70s when all the men wore REALLY TIGHT pants. lol

I think it was just sort of a day in the life type of story.  The essential plotline was Travolta thinking maybe he could a) make it w/this slightly older girl b) hitch a ride w/her to some kind of entertainment career.

Really it's a rather depressing movie.  I think it's sad about the girl (Angie   ;D) who followed him everywhere.  I felt bad for her but also wanted to slap her around for bothering w/him if he's ignoring her that much - and worst putting out in front of him w/his friends to try to make Travolta either jealous or sorry for her.  Then there's the boy who got his girlfriend pregnant and wants help from the would-be priest (and his "friends" too), is also ignored and kills himself.  Then Travolta has to give up the older girl and move on.  (Which is fine, but just more sign that this has no glimmer of happiness in it!)

The dancing/music is like a sideshow once you've seen the movie.  If you can block out all the depressing threads, it's fun!   :-/  Great music, though.

The dance sequences and the music made the film. The movie without the music and dance sequences would have been a bust.

I'm thankful for the music and dance. It made my trip to the movies worth it.

It's a classic now because of the Bee Gees and Travolta. Nothing more.

I love this movie, love the music & love the dancing and LOVE John Travolta!  I will always love that scene in the very beginning when he is walking down the street in those tight white polyester pants!  Woo Woo baby!  :D

I was about 11 when the flick came out and remember the hype well.  This is one that's easy to remeber as good but seen 20 years later from an adult perspective you wondered what the heck everyone was thinking ::).  I didn't like the characters in the movie, the woman dance partner was not a great dancer, nor was she even attractive.  But it is fun to see the hair and clothes and be thankful that we have moved on.
Travolta's dancing and the music definatley made the movie.

You're right...it was very depressing!  But it works for me because of the music, and the dancing takes me waaaaaay back to jr. high, when we used to get together at parties and do "The Hustle", and all of those other line-type dances.  When I look back, it was very cheezy, but then again it was the 70's, which I think had the most cheez of any decade!

I was always disappointed because I thought that the final dance with Tony & Stephanie wasn't that great.

I don't remember the 70's that well (I'm 27) but I still think film is great mainly for the John travolt'as performance and the Bee Gees soundtrack
