has anyone seen this film?
i know it was only made in 2000 but i love it: i am 17 so i never experienced the 70s so i am kind of experiencing it thru other doors...

what did people think of the film in relation to life in the 70s? was it anything like that?

The movie is bassed on the directors expierence working at Rolling Stone, so it has to be somewhat realistic. Is it how the average person lived during the 70's?  No, however it is a good movie.

"Okay, this film is going to be about a seventeen-year-old who writes for Rolling Stone, like I was.  And he'll accompany a band on tour for months, like I did.  And he'll lose his virginity in a hot three-way, like everyone will think I did."

I actually fell in love with the film the first time I saw it.  :)
I like the music in it. One of my favourite songs is tiny dancer and that's in it too!!

I practically did live this movie. Except I was a bit older and it was the early 1990s. And Kate Hudson, Anna Paquin and Fairuza Baulk weren't involved.  :-[

hey m@, I own Almost Famous and I love it so much.  I think that the movie, in itself is a great portrayal of life in the 70's.  When you see the scenes at the kid's house having a party-now that was real!

The only movie I can think of that closely resembles what it was really like to grow up in the 70's was "Dazed and Confused" (good soundtrack too, btw).

OK, a little flashback here.  ANd some insider info, because I was actually in the movie (but if you blink, you miss me.)

The movie is based on Cameron Crow's adventure as a young writer with Rolling Stone, on tour with Led Zeppelin.  A lot of what you see in the movie was based on real events.

THe last concert scene (which I was in) was shot at the Hollywood Paladium in 1999.  I remember spending all day in the parking lot across the street from the Pantages Theatre in Hollyweird, where they had the live stage musical based on Footloose showing.

Peter Frampton was one of the advisors in the movie, and he had a small part in it.  One of the best parts of doing the movie shoot was during a break, Peter came out and gave us a small concert.  My mind fails me now as to which songs he played, but he played 3 or 4 songs for us, and was AWESOME!

The crowd was about 50-50 between bringing our own wardrobe, and having some issued.  I even remember some of the black guys getting these HUGE afro wigs.  That was a good laugh for everybody.  ANd more pollyester then I have seen in many years in one location.

And some of us were issued cigarettes to smoke in the background.  This was for realism, since back in the 1970's everybody smoked.

THat was one of my better acting experiences.  I mostly just listened to them play and sing (and yes, Stilwater really DID play the songs), was given cigarettes, and got to hear Peter Frampton perform.  And I was even PAID for this!

A great movie with some great lines like "How do you know when it's kicked in" (referring to acid).  Depending on your "subculture" this show could be called somewhat realistic and it seems real whether it is or not.  Not only is it an interesting story but also has good acting.  And be sure to turn the volume way up (if your system can take it) during the concert scenes.  The interactions with William's mother and Russell (Billy Crudup) are hilarious.  Another funny one-liner I remember is, "No, this is not Maryanne with the pot".
